Dear Parents,

Dear Parents,
Our Step-it-up fundraiser has been a great success! Thank you to all you did to encourage friends and family to donate to our school. As of this morning, we have raised over $28,000 to go towards the purchase of Chromebooks. You still have until Sunday night to donate. I'm hoping we can reach $30,000. Wouldn't that be amazing?

All parents should have received an email with a link to a survey. This survey is very important for our school. We use the results from this survey to celebrate the great things we are doing and to improve on any areas of concern. Please take a few minutes to fill this out for our school. We are hoping to get at least 300 participants, which is less than half of the student population.

Early release parent conferences are next week. All conferences will be held virtually. Please make sure you are signed up for a conference with your child's teacher. Dismissal will begin at 12:50. Lunch for our digital students will be from 10:45 - 12:00.

Congratulations to Shann Griffith for receiving a $7,000 grant from Walton EMC to support our one million words and beyond campaign. This money will be used to purchase additional books for the media center. We have so many students reading, that we need to order more books to accommodate all students.

Please remember that any student that has any symptoms of Covid should stay home, even if you think it is just a cold. If someone in the household has tested positive for Covid, you must notify the school about this and quarantine all family members in the home. Please help us stop the spread!
Check your child's temperature and assess him or her for the following COVID-19 symptoms, using the checklist below:

□ Fever (100.4° or higher) or chills                   □ Headache                                 □ Sore throat
□ Cough                                                         □ New loss of taste or smell          □ Fatigue
□ Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing      □ Congestion or runny nose
□ Muscle or body aches                                   □ Nausea or vomiting

Have a great long weekend. Happy Valentine's Day! See you back at school on Tuesday.

Thank you to all of our parents, friends and supporters who have made our fundraiser a success so far! This is our LAST WEEKEND so make those final donations to really push us over the top so we can purchase as many chrome books as possible for our school! Thank you for all that you do and your continued support!!   www.stepitupkids.com/RDHead30047

Due to the pandemic, GCPS is administering a contactless version of the RBES Parent Survey this year. There will be no paper or school computer option. Instead, SchoolMessenger will deliver an email invitation to families to complete a survey for each school at which they have one or more enrolled students. The confidential survey will be available in English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese and will be accessed using the link and unique code provided in the SchoolMessenger email. The RBES Parent Survey will be available from February 8 through February 26. Your participation helps us to continuously improve our school. Thank you in advance for making your voice heard!

Digital learner book holds - starting with book pick-ups on Friday, February 19: Please only put 10 books on hold per week if your child can read all 10 (and take the AR quiz) within a week. If they are not able to get through 10 books in a week (if reading larger chapter books,) please have them choose fewer books. This will help us out a lot!
All books will be returned if not picked up by 2nd week after hold placed. You can tell if books are ready by having your child log into their media catalog acct. There is a tab on left to see what is currently checked out and you can tell by date. Thanks for your support.

Virtual Book Fair
Save the dates!  Online shopping will begin Feb 27 and run through March 12. Click the link or share with family and friends for them to add $ to your student ewallets to purchase books!  https://www.scholastic.com/bf/rdheadelementaryschool1 This link will open on 2/27 to begin shopping!

Your child can shop with ewallet just like in person! The new difference with eWallet is this feature will now act like a debit and anything not spent will carry over to the next book fair. If you add $25 and only spend $20.50, the balance of $4.50 will be ready for the next fair.  If you switch to a new school that has Scholastic, you will still be able to use it!  It can used it at the Scholastic store online but is not eligible for the in-class sale flyers. The eWallet feature is available NOW to share with family and friends! Shopping opens Saturday Feb 27! It's time to stock up on Spring reading!

Don't forget the February AR challenge ends Sunday 2/28!  This long, rainy weekend will be a great time to read! Happy Reading!
