Dear Parents, 

The final numbers are in and we raised $30,540 during our Step-it-up Fundraiser. Thanks to all the participated. Additional gifts that were earned above the Golden Ticket gifts will arrive at the school in two to three weeks. The company will send them once we close out the orders.

Parent conferences went well this week. Thank you for taking time to meet with your child's teacher. It is so important to the success of your child.

If your child was unable to connect to the digital lessons on Tuesday, they will have the opportunity to complete all unfinished assignments at school. Reach out to your child's teacher if you have any concerns.

There is a new CDC guideline for anyone traveling outside the United States. Please let the school know if you are traveling outside the country and follow the guidelines below.
  • CDC recommends that all international travelers get tested 3-5 days after returning AND self-quarantine at home for 7 days after travel.
  • Travelers who test positive must isolate based on current guidance for a confirmed case.
  • Even travelers who test negative should self-quarantine at home for the full 7 days. In other words, students and staff who travel outside the U.S. will not be able to return to school or work for at least 7 days after their return to the U.S.
  • Travelers who choose not to be tested should self-quarantine at home for a full 10 days after travel.
  • During self-quarantine, monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop, seek testing immediately and follow guidance for a suspected case.
Parents dropping off car riders in the morning, we need your help. We have had a large number of parents arriving after the car rider lane closes at 8:40. Please remember that you MUST walk your child into the school if you arrive after 8:40. This is for the safety of your child. As a reminder, students that ride the bus are in the classrooms by 8:20. Arriving after 8:40 could prevent your child from completing their morning work. We are encouraging all parents to arrive prior to 8:40.

PTA NEWS AND EVENTS


As you may have heard, we are having an exciting yearbook this year, with submissions from parents making up the majority of the yearbook.  So far, we have two challenges for submissions.  
Our August challenge: Submissions are closed!
Our September challenge: Submissions are closed!
October Yearbook Challenge: Submissions are closed!
November Yearbook Challenge: Take a hike, walk your neighborhood, go on a bike ride, scooter ride, roller skating, roller blading
December Yearbook Challenge: Bake something fun and share it with a friend or your family, make a holiday card and share it, or capture an act of kindness!
January yearbook Photo Challenge- Visit a museum, find a piece of art or sculpture that you like or  Create your own art! Take a pic with it!

AROUND SCHOOL


Due to the pandemic, GCPS is administering a contactless version of the RBES Parent Survey this year. There will be no paper or school computer option. Instead, SchoolMessenger will deliver an email invitation to families to complete a survey for each school at which they have one or more enrolled students. The confidential survey will be available in English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese and will be accessed using the link and unique code provided in the SchoolMessenger email. The RBES Parent Survey will be available from February 8 through February 26. Your participation helps us to continuously improve our school. Thank you in advance for making your voice heard!

Virtual Student Portrait Submission Requirements
We want your student to be included in the yearbook! Without your help your child will only be on their class page with their name below.

6 Steps to submit a portrait for yearbook:

  1. Have your child dressed in appropriate school attire. (Pictures in pajamas or pictures that do not follow the dress code will not be included.)
  2. Locate a space with natural light. (A room with some windows, the back porch, outside when it's dusk. 
  3. Find a background. This can be a garage door, a front door, a inside wall, an outside wall. 
  4. Have your child stand in front of background with hands by their sides with their eyes facing the camera. 
  5. Checking to make sure there aren't shadows on your child's face use your cell phone or other digital camera to take a couple of pictures from "the chest up. (please do not do full body shots the causes degradation in the photo when altered)
  6. Submit in full resolution as a .Jpg to rdheadyearbook@gmail.com (do not condense, but send as actual size)  

MEDIA CENTER

Digital learner book holds - Please only put 10 books on hold per week if your child can read all 10 (and take the AR quiz) within a week. If they are not able to get through 10 books in a week (if reading larger chapter books,) please have them choose fewer books. This will help us out a lot!  

All books will be returned if not picked up by 2nd week after hold placed. You can tell if books are ready by having your child log into their media catalog acct. There is a tab on left to see what is currently checked out and you can tell by date. Thanks for your support.  

Putting books on hold (all students)
Both digital and in-person student need to put books on hold through the media catalog.  If you are in-person, we deliver daily. Digital student pick up is on Fridays from 9-10:45 am or 1-2:15 pm. Book holds for digital students are due on Wednesdays by 4pm for Friday pick up. Here is the link on how to put books on hold. Students access it through their eclass course page login.
