MRS. JOHNSON'S NOTES
Dear Parents,

Thank you, again for all the gift cards for our staff Bingo game. It was a big hit with the teachers. They certainly felt appreciated by your generosity. The spirit days this week were so much fun! Thanks to those that posted to the Padlet on our eCLASS page.

Winter break is now upon us. The staff have been busy recording some bedtime stories for you to watch every night. The schedule and link to the stories can be found on our eCLASS home page. Please encourage your child to read nightly and take AR tests. We are trying to beat our record of 12,000,000 words read in one month. Students have until December 31 to get their tests completed.

On January 6, families will be able to pick up lunches at the school from 11:00 - 12:00. This is a shorter window than normal.

Students return on January 7. Please add these important dates to your calendars. January 11 @ 6:30- PTA General Meeting, January 13 - Picture retakes, and January 14 @ 6:00, School Council Meeting. PTA and School Council will be virtual meetings.

Have a wonderful holiday break! We will see you in 2021!

MEDIA CENTER

Digital friends:  Any books not picked up today, 12/18 will be checked in.  You will need to "rehold" books.  The first digital pickup day will be 1/8/21.  The hold due date for digital pickup is 1/6/21 by 4pm.

If you are transitioning to in-person learning you will be allowed 4 books instead of 10 when you return.

In-person friends, please don't put books on hold if you have 4 checked out or overdues.  Return what you've read, then put a couple on hold.  Thank you!

Here are some more options for reading over the break!
Use the SORA app to read online (link on Media Center page in eclass.)   Since you are reading online, you can easily open a tab to take the AR quiz when you are finished.  If you don't know the quiz # you can type the title or google AR book finder to get it.  There is also an app for AR book finder.

For those who want more books to read than we can provide at school (like the whole Wimpy Kid series at one time or ALL the Mo Willems books...) You can reserve books from the public library online and they will notify you when they are ready for pickup.  You can even go into some branch locations to pick books in person using social distancing and wearing masks.

With this link you enter the child's student ID number and their password is their birth month and day (ex. 0805.)  From here you can navigate and put books on hold at your closest Gwinnett Public Library.   Just another way to keep reading or supplement what you check out from the school.  Most books have AR so once you finish your book you can take the quiz.

If you have a library card you can reserve books that way as well.

The link to AR is https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/310783  This link is also on the student eclass page and can be used from home until 10pm nightly.

Our December challenge ends 12/31 so try to take as many quizzes as you can!  We can't wait to see the top 3 in every grade.    Any quizzes taken 1/1/2021 or later will count for the January challenge.

Don't forget that Mrs. Griffith has put many "how to" videos on the Media Center website to help with many of your questions, like how to take an AR quiz, put books on hold, etc. If you have a question, check there.  The answer is waiting for you!

Enjoy your holiday break!
