May 21, 2021
Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe the school year is coming to an end. Only three days left of school. The students enjoyed meeting their new teachers on Friday during Step-up-day! If your child does not remember his/her new teacher’s name, feel free to email their current teacher to find out.

Fifth grade completed their Georgia Milestones testing this week. The students stayed focused and worked hard to show what they know. Thanks to the teachers and parents for all the encouragement during these last few weeks of testing.

Our last three days are going to be filled with fun, laughter, and celebration. Monday afternoon, the seniors from Brookwood High School will walk the halls of their elementary school for the last time. Tuesday we will celebrate our fifth graders with our graduation ceremonies. Class parties will take place this coming week with the fifth grade end of the year party on Wednesday followed by the fifth grade walk. Fifth graders will walk the halls of Head for the last time Wednesday afternoon. We are excited for them to be moving on to middle school, but we are sad to see them go.

If you have not had a chance to sign up for the summer five, make sure you do. Students have the opportunity to continue reading over the summer and can check out five books. It is important to have your students read all summer long.

Have a great weekend!

Believe it or not we are already preparing for the 2021-2022 school year. Each year our parents and community step up to contribute their time to our fantastic school. New to RD Head? New to volunteering?

Digital SEA Device Check-Out
Parents, please complete the following Device Request Form if you need to temporarily borrow a device for a Head Elementary student in your household to participate in the Digital SEA Program. The Digital SEA (Summer Enrichment+Acceleration) Program will be available from June 14 through July 16. K-8 students and their families can access the Digital SEA eCLASS page for more information on how to begin. Families can learn more about the Digital SEA Program by visiting:

A separate form should be submitted for each Head Elementary student who needs a device. Please note that only one hotspot device will be issued per family. One hotspot will accommodate multiple devices.

Please Note:
  • FOR DIGITAL SEA PARTICIPANTS ONLY (Not for In-Person Summer Program Students)
  • Rising 6th grade students (students that were in 5th grade for the 2020-2021 school year) should contact the middle school to check out devices for Digital SEA

  • All borrowed devices should be returned no later than July 16 (the last day of the Digital SEA Program)

Now, more than ever, your thanks, encouragement, and celebration of GCPS staff members is a meaningful way to show how much our community values public education and appreciates those who have helped our students this school year.

Families have two ways to send employees a special note of appreciation as we approach the end of the school year.

Say thank you with an eCard! Select one of five designs and complete the eCard submission form here:

Digital Student Device Return (For Current Digital Students Only)
Parents and Guardians of Current Digital Students,

As we approach the end of the 2020-21 school year, we want to communicate our plan for device return to our school. All devices checked out to students must be checked back into the local school at the end of the 2020-21 school year so that tech teams can begin preparing the devices for summer learning activities and the coming school year. If your student has a school-owned Chromebook, laptop, hotspot, or other device, please plan to return the device on the designated date and time listed below.

When returning your device(s), please:
  • Bring all components, including chargers and mice
  • Have the device(s) fully charged and powered on in order to expedite the return process
  • Clean the device(s) before returning to the school
  • Only use a damp cloth so that no liquid can get inside
  • Please do not spray any cleaners directly on the device
Devices will be assessed for damage upon return and fines may be assigned based on the damage in order to cover the cost of replacement parts and repairs. Fines can be paid by credit or debit card, cash, or check at the time of the return. If a device is returned in good condition, no fine will be assigned. Device services will be turned off and fines for replacing the device will be assigned if a device is not returned.

Here are some amazing resources for summer reading.

  • The public library (gcpl) is open for you and your child to enjoy summer reading! You can put books on hold and they will be waiting for you! The link below is a spreadsheet of leveled book suggestions. There are many more. This is just a guide. Select a level from the bottom of the sheet, then put some of them on hold from gcpl. A is the easiest, Z is the most challenging.
  • For students who can read chapter books, below is the link for the Take 5 permission form. This form is due this Monday, May 17. Students will be allowed to pick 5-chapter books for summer reading if they will be students at Head ES next year. Digital students can put books on hold by Wednesday, May 19 and pick up their summer reading books on Friday, May 21. Students with permission slips will be able to come to the media center on Tuesday, May 25 to get their 5 chapter books. Please bring a bag.
  • Rising 6th graders can check out books from Five Forks Middle School Library May 17-21 from 2:00-5:00 pm. They can also use, and the public library.
