Dear Husky Community:

As we move ahead with our search for a new Head of School, we will be updating you from time to time on the progress of the search. We are committed to keeping you informed and eager to receive your feedback at various stages in the process.

As stated in my previous letter, a Trustee Search Committee has been appointed. The primary responsibility of the Search Committee is to identify the qualities most desired and needed for the Head of Schools and then to screen, review and evaluate candidates in light of the traits and school challenges identified by the schools. Ultimately, the Search Committee will recommend a head-elect to the Board of Trustees. Members of the search committee include trustees Chloe Reid Boutelle, Chair; Mari-Jo Deutschman, Mike Quarry, and former trustees Arthur Berg and Rose Contreras.

In the days ahead, a Search Advisory Committee, chaired by current parent Kimberly White-Smith and Sue Mathews, Associate Head of School for Advancement, and made up of faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and friends of the school will be appointed to ensure broad participation and an inclusive process. The Search Advisory Committee will interview the finalists and will provide individual feedback directly to the Search Committee. The Advisory Committee will not rank candidates nor make collective recommendations to the Search Committee.

The Board of Trustees has retained Marcus Hurlbut and Joan Beauregard of Educators’ Collaborative to help us with our search. This firm has conducted over 1000 head of school searches since 1971, and Marc and Joan have a strong track record of completing successful searches here in California and across the country. Both Marc and Joan look forward to working with our school community to find the very best person to succeed David Maher.

The success of this search will depend in large part on the input the Search Committee and the consultants receive from the RHP community. Marc and Joan will begin the process through a series of Zoom meetings with various constituent groups the week of November 16. The schedule for these meetings is as follows:

In addition to these Zoom sessions, all members of our school community are encouraged to participate in an online, anonymous survey at the following link.
Please note that the survey will be open for one week and will close on November 21

Marc and Joan will use the results of the Zoom meetings and the online survey to create a leadership profile which will be used to post the position and recruit a pool of candidates well suited to be the Head of our Schools. In addition, they will advertise the position extensively in the coming weeks and access their extensive database and professional networks to solicit and encourage applications from well-qualified prospective candidates. Shortly after the first of the year, the Search Committee will review dossiers and invite 6-8 candidates to confidential interviews with the Committee. From this group, the Committee will invite the top candidates to the school in February for two days of interviews. There will be opportunities for representatives from all constituencies in our community to meet the candidates either in-person or via Zoom and provide feedback to the Search Committee. Ideally, a single candidate will rise to the top and be recommended to the Board for approval in late February.

If you have questions for the Search Committee, then please feel free to send them to the confidential e-mailbox of the Board of Trustees:

In the meantime, we are grateful for your support and will continue to keep you informed about our progress.
