Headmaster Update
John Thornburg
Headmaster
Dear Families,

Welcome to April break! I trust that you and your family are taking some time to rest and relax. This is a great time to recharge before we enter the last weeks of the school year. There are a lot of exciting things ahead, and time will pass by quickly. We have had a great year, and my prayer is we will finish strong as we move into summer.

Typically, we do not send a Headmaster’s Update during a school break, but there are important events and deadlines coming up and I want to make sure that everyone is informed. In this issue, you will find information regarding the following:

  • Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Exercise Registration
  • Schoolwide COVID-19 Testing for Faculty, Staff, and Students (Monday, April 26)
  • Return to School Webinar (April 26 at 6:30 PM)
  • Return to School In-Person Learning Plan and Google Form for choosing your student's PHASE
  • Our 15th Annual Gala (April 29 at 7:00 PM)

I encourage all of our families to attend the Return to School for In-person Learning webinar on Monday, April 26 since it will feature Dr. David King along with our COVID-19 administrative team and provide us all an opportunity to discuss the details of the plan. Our 15th Annual Malden Catholic Gala will also be a significant event for our school community on April 29 at 7 PM.

My prayers are with your family this week, and I look forward to seeing our students return to school the following week.

Thank you for all of your support,

John K. Thornburg

Schoolwide Saliva COVID-19 Testing - April 26
In preparation for returning to school, Malden Catholic will administer COVID-19 Pool Testing. On Monday, April 26, MC will require all students who plan on being in the GREEN PHASE to participate in a schoolwide COVID-19 testing initiative. We are also requiring all faculty and staff to participate in the testing. As part of our commitment to a Culture of Health and Safety, we require the testing of everyone who will be in the building next week when we begin our in-person learning model (GREEN PHASE). This will allow us to establish a baseline for the health of the current school community and return to the building in the safest possible manner. Any member of our school community who cannot make this mandatory event should contact either Nurse Paquette, Nurse Olive or Mrs. Redman.

Testing schedule and procedures:
All testing will be conducted outside under the tent outside the gymnasium. Students will be separated by divisions and also by homerooms. Boys Division will utilize the back parking lot by door #11 and then walk to the tent. Girls Division will enter the tent from the front of the building on Crystal St. The testing area will be separated by homerooms. Students will be directed to their designated tables, complete, the test, and then exit the testing area. The school will not be open to students.

8:30 - 9:30 AM - All Grade 9 Students
10:00 - 11:00 AM - All Grade 10 Students
1:30 - 2:30 PM - All Grade 11 Students
