Dear Parents,

On behalf of the entire Malden Catholic community, I want to wish all of our families a wonderful Thanksgiving break and holiday! Our students and staff have worked very hard since the start of the school year and we all deserve a restful and energizing break. I hope we take a moment to reflect and be thankful for all that God has done for us over the past few months.

As I have shared in the past, when my children were younger, we would create a “thankful” list as a family. I would place a large sheet of paper on the living room wall and during the week before Thanksgiving, my family would take the time to write items of thanksgiving. When we sat down together before the meal, we would read the list out loud. It was a touching experience and helped us all focus our thoughts and prayers on gratitude.

If I were to create a similar list for the past several months at Malden Catholic, it would include the following:
  • Our outstanding faculty and staff: They have gone above and beyond to make sure the needs of our students have been met in our Hybrid model. We are very blessed to have such a wonderful group serving at our school.
  • Our wonderful parents who have been so patient and supportive of our efforts this fall: We know families are working through their own challenges and they have all been tremendously encouraging. I am thankful for your dedication and support of Malden Catholic.
  • The hard work of the Fall Re-entry Team: This past summer their work has allowed us to continue to offer classes in a safe environment on campus.
  • The hard work of our facilities crew: Each and every day they make sure our building is clean, safe and ready to go.
  • Our Campus Ministry team: They have provided excellent opportunities for us to connect with each other and with our faith.
  • The dedication and commitment of our MC staff: This team has put in countless hours to keep our communications flowing, our advancement and leadership programs running and our admissions season strong.

We have much to be thankful for. May you and your family enjoy several days of rest, relaxation and fun during your time together.

Thank you for your support,

John K. Thornburg

Thanksgiving Break
Dear Malden Catholic Families,

I am very excited to have begun teaching History here at Malden Catholic. Although I am new to MC, I am not new to teaching. In June, I retired after thirty-five years from the Stoughton Public Schools where I was a History teacher, Social Studies Department Director, Summer School Director and Varsity Boys Basketball coach. Although I enjoyed my time at Stoughton, I am thrilled to be here at Malden Catholic. The Hybrid scheduling model at MC has allowed me to enjoy teaching and working with not only my students who are in the classroom, but also my students who are online at home.

As a Providence College alum, I understand the importance and the value of a Catholic education. I am enjoying working in a school which has a focus on faith-based education and service to others. My wife Debbie and I live in Burlington, where we have raised three sons: Connor, Patrick and Brendan. In my free time I enjoy reading, golfing and spending time on the Cape.

I am looking forward to all the new experiences Malden Catholic has to offer, and I am grateful for this opportunity.

Thanksgiving Prayer
Thanksgiving week is now upon us. I am very thankful to all the faculty, staff and families who have done everything they can to keep us all safe. Malden Catholic is a special place and I am grateful to be part of this community. I offer this prayer of Thanksgiving to all of you:

“Dear Lord, on Thanksgiving Day, we bow our hearts to You in prayer. We give You thanks for all You have done, mostly for the gift of Jesus Christ, Your Son. For beauty in nature, in which we see Your Glory, for joy and health, friends, and family. For our daily sustenance, Your mercy and care, these are the blessings You kindly share. So today we offer this response of praise with a promise to follow You all of our days. Amen.”
