Headmaster Update

Dear Parents,

As you know, at Malden Catholic we are committed to providing an exceptional academic program and as much in-person learning as possible for our students. We have been operating under a Hybrid Model since we opened the 2020 season on September 14 and we believe that all of our students benefit greatly from having the live, socially distanced experience of being on campus with their friends and fellow students, participating in class two days/week in cohorts and enjoying sporting activities after school. Due to the influence of events outside our school, we moved to our Red Phase to exercise extra caution to ensure the wellbeing of our community.

These are truly unprecedented times, and we all need to keep in mind that remaining both focused and flexible are critically important. We all must focus on mitigating the risk to our community by avoiding unnecessary travel, refraining from gathering in groups outside of campus and diligently following all guidelines provided by the CDC and all state and local health organizations. We also ask that everyone in our community remain flexible in mindset so that we can move between the Phases as needed, to keep everyone at MC safe, while meeting the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of our students. Together, we will continue to demonstrate the fluidity and steadfast resiliency of our amazing Malden Catholic family.

I would like to personally thank each and every one of our parents for their understanding as we traverse this challenging pandemic. We look forward to reengaging in Malden Catholic sports on Saturday, October 24 and reopening the school facility in the Yellow Phase on Monday, October 26.

Thank you for your support,

John K. Thornburg

Reminders from Principal Redman
Dear Families,

I am very excited to be joining Malden Catholic High School this year as a School Counselor. I have worked for many years in school, college, and academic administration and counseling and I am also adjunct faculty at a local University where I teach a graduate career and counseling course each semester.

At Malden Catholic, we are very aware that to be successful at school, students need to feel they are being supported in their academic, social, emotional, spiritual and college and career development. My experiences keep me up to date with both the current and future needs of young adults, and I am thrilled with the amazing MC students that I have met since the beginning of the year.

Even though I have only been at Malden Catholic for a short time, I can tell that Malden Catholic is an exceptional school for many reasons: (1) MC is a very welcoming environment and team-oriented; (2) at Malden Catholic, every person matters: students, families, faculty, staff and administration; and (3) this community focuses on the “whole student" - today, tomorrow and in the future.

I look forward to getting to know everyone at MC and offering my support to students and parents alike as we progress successfully through the school year. Go Lancers!

Virtual ALS Walk Sign Ups
This year, the ALS walk will be virtual, done independently, with a donation being made in the name of the Malden Catholic Walk Team. On Friday, October 23rd, students are asked to complete a three-mile walk along a route of their choice, and we ask for a minimum $10 on-line donation.

Brother Tom will host the MC ALS Kick-Off webinar at 11 AM so that students can begin the virtual walk at the same time. Please register for the MC ALS Kick-Off Webinar on Oct 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM EDT.

(On the registration page, right column, select “Join a Team,” and then use the dropdown menu to select Malden Catholic High School.)

This organization is looking for volunteers to tutor students, grades pre-K to Grade 12 on a Zoom platform for 1 hour per week. This is a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community!

Students who are interested should reach out to the Malden Catholic Campus Ministers, Ms. Foley or Dr. Baccari for more information.
