Headmaster Update

Dear Families,

Today is a very special Monday. We welcomed students into the building for the first day of school since the start of the pandemic! Navigating this was no small feat with the challenges provided by COVID-19. I walked the halls before school this morning and was immediately impressed by the dedication of our faculty and staff. Our building was prepped and ready to go. Our faculty and staff have worked overtime to make sure we established the safest possible environment for our students. Their commitment to our mission and to the young men and women who walk the halls of MC is truly extraordinary.

This morning, the enthusiasm and positive energy could be felt by everyone. One faculty member said they woke up well before the alarm went off due to the excitement of the first day of school. I did the same. Freshly sanitized and cleaned classrooms with socially distanced desks waited for the new year to begin. The teachers were trained and have adapted to the new technology outfitted in each classroom. The students began to arrive, passing through the thermal cameras and walked on their way to the first period class. Soon, the bell rang and Principal Redman welcomed everyone to the new year. She led us in prayer and the fall semester was underway.

I want to thank our families for their commitment to our school. I know the summer has been challenging and each family has gone above and beyond to partner with us. We are thrilled to be able to join together this week as a school community and to continue on our path of success as we move into the fall.

Thank you for your support,

John K. Thornburg

MC Featured on WCVB Channel 5
On September 8, WCVB Channel 5 reporter, Jennifer Eagan, featured Malden Catholic in a back-to-school story that detailed the cutting-edge technology that will make our school classrooms a fully engaged experience for both live and remote students. MC has invested over $500,000 in facilities and technology improvements to ensure that the school offers a safe, supportive and highly interactive learning environment for our entire student body.

Back-to-School Orientation
Over the course of last week, MC students gathered for fall orientation. Divided into their assigned cohorts by grade, students reviewed the safety protocols and watched the attached instructional video highlighting the requirements for returning to school. Orientation also provided important information that prepared students for this exciting school year.

Please take a moment and review Malden Catholic's Instructional Re-entry video.
How to Get Organized for Classes
Over the years, Mrs. Stacey Sullivan, Malden Catholic's Learning Specialist, has discovered a system that allows students to strengthen their organizational skills and class preparedness. She has produced an instructional video that demonstrates how to assemble a binder that will help incoming Grade 9 students stay highly organized and time-efficient during this unique Hybrid phase.
MC Student Goes Plus Ultra!
Congratulations to Nadia Carbone for going above and beyond in her Christian Service contribution last year. Nadia volunteered at the McGlynn Middle School in various ways including their NJHS induction ceremony, middle school student tutoring, teacher luncheons and coordinated school dances. She also assisted Tanner Closet food pantry by packing and delivering food baskets to local families. In addition, she volunteered at Malden YMCA's preschool class and assisted Mrs. Abbas with the MC STEM camp. Way to go, Nadia!
Senior College Planning Night
The School and College Counseling team is delighted to have our students back on campus and ready to start the year strong. In preparation for college admission activities, we will be hosting our annual Senior College Planning Night, reimagined into a webinar format, on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30 PM.

The prayer service recording will also be distributed later in the day.
