Headmaster Update
John Thornburg
Headmaster
Dear Parents,

As you know, we have developed extensive safety protocols and plans to keep our campus safe and create a culture of health. These guidelines and plans have been in place throughout the summer and the new school year. They are designed to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to our students, faculty and staff.

Every individual at our facility is required to wear masks, complete our Safety Health Screening and pass through thermal cameras at the entrance of our building. In addition, our desks and lunch tables are more than 6 feet apart, all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned in between uses and we undergo a deep cleaning of the entire facility on Wednesdays and on weekends.

Despite these diligent efforts, with a community of over 750 people, it is possible for individuals to have exposure to COVID-19 outside our school facility. In the event that someone reports a positive COVID-19 test result, we will remain committed to the individual's privacy and respect all privacy laws. We will also be transparent with our community so that all members may be aware and attentive to our health protocols.

As you know, contact tracing must be done by a healthcare professional who is trained in the proper procedures. Our MC Nurse has received training from John Hopkins University to be a skilled COVID-19 contact tracer and has extensive education in this meticulous process. In the event that an individual within our community has a positive test result, we will immediately begin contact tracing and notify anyone deemed to be a close contact. If you do not hear from the MC Nurse, your student has not been determined to be a close contact.

It is our hope is that we will be able to remain at Malden Catholic throughout the fall and we ask that you help by diligently following all guidelines set by the Department of Public Health. Please make sure that students follow all social distancing guidelines and do not gather in groups when they are off campus.

Thank you for your support,

John K. Thornburg
Headmaster

Reminders from Principal Redman
Thank you for your patience last week as we navigated through our new academic environment. Please be sure to submit your Verification/Authorization Forms in homeroom this week. These forms were sent home with students and must be signed by the parent and the student after the information is verified and the handbook has been read.

Here are a few housekeeping items for students:
1. All students should have earbuds or headphones for class.
2. Students may not have their cell phones out during the school day.
3. A copy of schedules will be given to each student during their first period when they return to school. Students will also receive a copy of the bell schedule for each day.
4. When students are in remote learning, they do not have homeroom.
5. During unstructured periods, students may not report to the tent or the gym.
6. Please make sure that you continue to update your lunch accounts. Students should not carry a negative balance.

Virtual Prayer Service and Headmaster's Address
Last week we held our back-to-school Prayer Service and Headmaster Address. We welcomed and shared blessings for our new students, faculty and staff and the 2020/2021 Senior XBSS Leadership Team. Headmaster Thornburg also shared an inspirational story of the adventurers from 1914 who embarked on a journey to cross Antarctica. These brave travelers rose to the occasion and despite all odds demonstrated resilience, faith and determination during their challenges, just as we have as a community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
