Heads Up: 2026 Longitudinal System Analysis (LSA) Is Coming

Dear Providers,

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) Data Analytics Department is beginning preparations for the 2026 Longitudinal System Analysis (LSA) submission to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The LSA is an annual federal reporting requirement that uses data from the Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) to provide a system level picture of how people experience and move through the homeless response system over time. The report includes data for the reporting period of October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026, and is submitted annually in mid-January.

Why This Matters

The quality of the LSA depends on the quality of the information entered into HMIS. Accurate, complete, and timely data helps ensure that Los Angeles County is accurately represented in federal reporting and supports critical decisions related to homelessness policy, planning, performance, and funding.

LSA data contributes to federal analysis and reporting, including the Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR), and helps inform homelessness policy, funding, and program planning.

What Providers Should Know Now

No immediate LSA-specific action is required at this time. However, providers are encouraged to continue proactively reviewing and maintaining the quality of their HMIS data by using the data quality tools and resources available through the Data Quality Monitoring Plan (DQMP) website. These tools can help identify potential data quality issues and support ongoing corrections as part of regular data quality practices.

In the coming weeks, LAHSA will provide additional information about:

  • Projects and data included in the 2026 LSA
  • Provider responsibilities and expectations
  • Data quality areas that should be reviewed
  • Tools and dashboards available to support data cleanup
  • Key milestones and correction deadlines

Starting early and maintaining accurate HMIS data throughout the year will help reduce the need for extensive corrections during the final LSA validation period.

More detailed guidance and next steps will be shared soon.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to strengthening the quality of Los Angeles County's HMIS data.

Warm regards,

LAHSA Data Analytics Department
