Letting Go . . . Pass It On
We said goodbye to our beautiful dog, Maizy, Memorial Day Weekend, 2025.
We had always told ourselves, “When she no longer chooses food (a minor miracle), or doesn’t ask to go for a walk (another minor miracle), we’ll know it’s time.”
But that’s not what happened.
Her body simply began to betray her. And we knew.
The old adage whispered to me: “The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
We are grief-stricken.
Sometimes, life hardens us—or quietly lulls to sleep the parts of ourselves that feel deeply. The parts that remind us we love. That we care. That we’re grateful, compassionate, and kind.
But loss wakes us up.
Whether it's saying goodbye to a beloved pet, a friend, a job, or a relationship—grief has a way of shaking us back into presence. And in that quiet, painful space, we remember: we do care. We can love deeply.
So rather than fill the emptiness of loss with distractions or things that don’t serve us, maybe we can do something else. Maybe we can take the fairy dust of love, kindness, and compassion we had for the one we’ve lost—and blow it from our hearts, letting it land where it’s needed most.
One last tribute.
One small act of love.
Pass it on.
