Pedals of Progress

In just over five years, BikeLNK, Lincoln's bike share network, has facilitated over 200,000 trips, covering a remarkable 350,000 miles with 130 bikes stationed across 21 locations in and around downtown.

A recent public survey verified the popularity of it's station locations but also

revealed a wish list for future planning, including:

  • introducing stations farther from the downtown center, particularly near densely populated residential areas, and
  • ensuring the presence of bicycle infrastructure nearby to cater to riders with varying skill levels

As 2023 concludes, trip counts remain robust, with over 34,000 rider trips and nearly 74,000 miles ridden. As time progresses, more opportunities are emerging for BikeLNK.

Warm Coats, Hot Food,

and Fresh Cuts

Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach, Bluestem Health and Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln (PHL), helped to warm up the holidays for those in our community who are food and housing insecure on December 14th at their joint Health & Haircuts event.

Matt Talbot served nearly 130 people a hot meal, while Blue stem provided medical outreach, blankets, and warm winter outerwear. Barbers from PHL's More Than A Shop outreach program (pictured above) provided haircare and cuts - to the special delight of one small boy who had never been in a barbershop.

A Safer, Healthier New Year

Through August of 2023, those 65 and older accounted for 63% of COVID hospitalizations, more than 1/2 of the admissions to ICUs, and 90% of deaths among those hospitalized for COVID. 75% were UNVAXXED. Flu and RSV can also be deadly for seniors.

It's not too late to get up to date on vaccinations. For a healthier New Year, protect everyone, especially those more vulnerable, in your family - get every eligible family member vaccinated against COVID, flu, and RSV.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and protecting the health, wellness, and fitness of Lincoln's children, families, and seniors.

We work to improve wellness policies and conduct community level health research. We collaborate with community partners to promote healthy weights through good nutrition and fitness, improve child and maternal health by supporting breastfeeding, create better patient outcomes by increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, improving chronic disease management, increasing preventative outreach, and standardizing clinical practices. During public health crises like the COVID 19 pandemic, we help to protect community health by providing science and evidence-based information.
Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln also works to improve health equity in our community, addressing disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest burden of chronic disease.  Systemic racism is also a threat to community health. We stand in solidarity with everyone who is fighting for greater equality and justice for all.
