God First
While Moses is up on the mountain meeting with God. The people of Israel are at the foot of the mountain confused about how to worship God. They decide to fashion an idol. As they are fashioning an idol, God is giving Moses the 10 Commandments. The second of those 10 Commandments was "no idols"! As Moses came down the mountain with the 10 Commandments in his arms he sees the golden calf. What happens next is not a pretty sight. Suffice it to say, the hopes of the Promised Land and a people after Gods own heart are hanging by a very slender thread.
The people needed something tangible to worship. We still do. While God calls us to worship him in spirit and truth, we are clinging to tangible things. We trust what we can see. We invest our time, talent and treasure in what we can see and hold. Meanwhile, the hope of freedom in Christ and the peace that passes all understanding hangs by a slender thread.  This week's message will explore the idols of our day and the blessings we find when we leave our idols behind.  See you Sunday! Pastor Kris
