GENERAL NEWS

  • National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week: This call to action brings individuals, organizations, and state and local governments together to reduce childhood exposure to lead. Lead is toxic, especially in young children and can be found inside and outside the home. The most common source of exposure for children is from lead-based paint, which was used in many homes built before 1978. Children who have lead poisoning typically do not look or act sick. Parents should talk with their child’s health care provider about the risk of lead exposure and request a blood lead test if children are under age six. The Winnebago County Health Department is working to eliminate lead hazards with its Lead-Safe Homes Program. This new state and federally funded program helps pay for the safe removal of lead from homes and rental properties. To see if your home may be eligible or for more information, please visit this page. To download the flyer, click here.

For additional demographic information, please see this DHS webpage.

  • COVID Testing and Treatment via TeleHealth! The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) recently launched a COVID-19 Treatment Telehealth program at select Health Departments across Wisconsin. Now offered at the Sunnyview Expo Center COVID-19 testing site, the program provides free, easy access anyone over the age of 18, who tests positive for COVID-19 and symptom onset is fewer than 5 days earlier. Individuals can connect with a health care clinician through video or telephone consultation. The clinician will evaluate the health status and eligibility for an oral antiviral pill that reduces the risk for severe symptoms and hospitalization from COVID-19. If eligible, the clinician can issue a prescription for the treatment that can be filled at any of these 600+ pharmacies. The option to have the medication shipped overnight will be available beginning November 1. There is no cost to individuals for use of this service.

  • Sunnyview Testing Temporary Move: On November 10 and 11 as well as November 17 and 18, testing at Sunnyview Expo Center will be relocated the Coughlin Center (625 E. County Rd. Y, Oshkosh). COVID-19 testing is available to those over the age of 2. Register for testing prior to coming at the COVID Connect website. Get tested for COVID-19 if:
  • You have symptoms.
  • You were exposed to someone who has COVID-19.
  • Before and after attending an event to ensure the health of everyone.
  • Before seeing an individual who is immunocompromised or is at higher risk for getting COVID-19.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Supplies: The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is inviting health care organizations, local and tribal health departments, nonprofits, and government agencies to fill out a statewide survey to request surplus PPE supplies from the DHS Warehouse. Items available range from standard COVID-19 PPE items (masks, respirators, gloves) to hygiene items (pillows, toothbrushes) to miscellaneous items such as paper bags. This distribution will not impact the state of readiness as DHS continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find the survey online here. The survey will close on November 7, 2022, at 4 p.m. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.
