Health Department Situation Update

GENERAL NEWS

  • Winnebago County Schools Receive Grants: The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) awarded $8.3 million in funding to support K-12 school health service staff throughout the state. This first-of-its-kind funding will support hiring and retention for school nurses and health staff and provide funding for school nurses to pursue wellness activities and professional development. Winnebago County schools received over $182,000 in funding. Click here for more information.

  • National Family Caregivers Month: Celebrated every November, National Family Caregivers Month (NFCM) is a time to recognize and honor family caregivers across the country. It offers an opportunity to raise awareness of caregiving issues, educate communities, and increase support for caregivers. Families are the primary source of support for older adults and people with disabilities. Many caregivers work and also provide care, experiencing conflicts between competing responsibilities. Research indicates caregiving takes a significant emotional, physical, and financial toll. With nearly half of all caregivers over age 50, many are vulnerable to a decline in their own health. Coordinated support services can reduce caregiver depression, anxiety, and stress, and enable them to provide care longer, which avoids or delays the need for costly institutional care. To find additional resources and information, please visit https://wisconsincaregiver.org.

  • Help Spread the Word About Community Resources! Visit our new Partner Toolkit on our website for flyers on our programs and services that can be printed or shared electronically. We will continue to update and add to this page. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you would like a flyer for a health department program; a service not featured on this page; or if you would like additional languages, sizes or formats. Call 920-232-3000 or email health@winnebagocountywi.gov.

  • Hope Clinic and Care Center: Millions of people in America lack primary health care. They are either uninsured, underinsured, or simply do not have access to quality healthcare. The Hope Clinic & Care Center was designed with a vision and purpose to help fill the medical gaps we find in our community by providing completely free care to those that need it most. In addition to your basic medical care they offer basic access to:
  • Mental Health Counseling
  • Cardiologists
  • Dermatologists
  • Dieticians
  • Orthopedics
  • Physical Therapy

For more information, please visit https://hopeclinic.care, email info@hopeclinic.care, or call 920-931-1150.

  • Situation Update Changes: Due to the upcoming holidays, our next two Situation Updates will be published on December 2 and December 22. In 2023, we will begin publishing the Situation Update monthly. Situation Updates will still be emailed and will continue to be available on our website. The COVID-19 Data Summary will continue to be published weekly (except the week of Thanksgiving) and the Monkeypox Data Summary will be published with the Situation Update.

Participants can expect a lower sensory environment, sensory fidgets, distraction strategies, and other individualized accommodations as needed. This clinic will offer Moderna vaccines and Pfizer boosters to eligible community members. There is no cost for participants. Parents and other family members are welcome to schedule their vaccines or boosters. Pizza will be available for dinner and participants are welcome to play in the museum after receiving their vaccines. • In Home Ventilation: This time of year brings us all together - inside. Help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by improving ventilation in your home. Improving ventilation can help you reduce virus particles in your home and keep COVID-19 from spreading. You may or may not know if someone in your home or if a visitor to your home has COVID-19 or other respiratory viruses. Ventilate your home by getting fresh air into your home, filtering the air that is there, and improving air flow. Good ventilation, along with other preventive actions, can help prevent you and others from getting and spreading COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses. Use CDC’s Interactive Home Ventilation Tool to learn how you can decrease the level of COVID-19 virus particles during and after a guest visits your home.

  • COVID-19 Booster for Those Over 50: The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) urges everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu. Included in the new DHS recommendations for a booster dose are all residents and staff in long-term care facilities (LTCFs). Getting the updated COVID-19 booster is especially important for people 50 years and older, those who are immunocompromised, and those who are in close contact with these populations. The new boosters are recommended as a single dose for those who have received their primary series or had their last booster dose at least two months ago. Vaccination locations can be found at wcvaccine.org or consider arranging an on-site COVID-19 vaccine clinic at your facility. For those individuals that are homebound, Advanced Medical Integration (AMI) is working with the state of Wisconsin to provide vaccination to those unable to get to a vaccination site. You will need a referral from one of the following organizations and then AMI will contact you directly:
  • ADRC of Winnebago County: 877-886-2372
  • Winnebago County Health Department: 920-232-3000
  • Menasha Public Health Department: 920-967-3520

  • Walk in Wednesday Vaccine Clinic: There will be no vaccine clinic at Sunnyview Expo Center on Wednesday, November 23. Beginning November 30 the normal hours of 3 to 6 pm will resume. To find additional vaccine locations please visit wcvaccine.org or call 920-232-3026.
