  • New Wellness Plus Classes are starting! Join the Strong Bodies Class and Stand Up! classes this winter. Classes are available throughout Winnebago County. Find a full list of Wellness Plus classes at wchd.pub/wellnessclasses. Call the Winnebago County Health Department at 920-232-3000 to register or if you have additional questions.

Strong Bodies is a research proven strength training class for men and women 55 and older. The class meets twice a week for 12 weeks. Strength training improves bone density, arthritis symptoms, flexibility, mood, confidence levels and reduces falls.

Stand Up! helps you make simple, everyday changes to increase how often you stand. It is NOT an exercise program, but uses strategies to add more standing time a day. This class is proven to decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and early death.

  • A Better Way to Holiday: The Winnebago County Health Department encourages people to take steps to protect their health and those around them this holiday season. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is showing a significant increase of influenza (flu) throughout Wisconsin, mirroring trends around the country. Other respiratory viruses, including COVID-19 and RSV, also continue to spread. These viruses spread easily when people are gathered together. Eligible Wisconsinites can get their flu vaccine and updated COVID-19 booster at the same time. Simple steps to prevent the spread of illness include: frequent hand washing, covering coughs, sanitizing surfaces, and staying away from others if you are sick.

  • Updated Vaccine Information: Earlier this month the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the updated bivalent vaccine for those over the age of 6 months:
  • Moderna Vaccine: Children ages 6 months through 5 years who have completed a Moderna primary series are eligible to receive a Moderna bivalent booster 2 months after their final primary series dose.
  • Pfizer Vaccine: Children ages 6 months through 4 years who are currently completing a Pfizer primary series will receive a Pfizer bivalent vaccine as their third primary dose. If your child has already completed their primary series (3 shots), they are not eligible.

The updated bivalent booster better helps protect against new strains of COVID-19. Talk to your child’s pediatrician if you have any questions or visit the CDC's vaccine webpage.

Beginning January 3, 2023 the Winnebago County Health Department will be providing the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, including the new updated bivalent vaccine and booster, to those over the age of 6 months. We will no longer offer the Moderna vaccine at our clinics. To find additional vaccine locations near you click here.
