March is National Nutrition Month
|
National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits. What we eat is considered an environmental factor that influences health, in positive and negative ways. Healthy diets with an optimal balance of nutrients help people accomplish daily physical activities and mental processes. Within your diet, a deficiency or excess of certain nutrients can affect health.
|
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated the Nutrition Facts label on packaged foods and drinks. FDA is requiring changes to the Nutrition Facts label based on updated scientific information, new nutrition research, and input from the public. This is the first major update to the label in over 20 years. The refreshed design and updated information will make it easier for you to make informed food choices that contribute to lifelong healthy eating habits. Read including details on calories, serving sizes, added sugars, and more. Read more

Colorectal Cancer Awareness
|
Colorectal cancer screening saves lives.
Regular screening, beginning at age 45, is the key to preventing colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum). If you’re 45 to 75 years old, get screened for colorectal cancer regularly. If you’re younger than 45 and think you may be at high risk of getting colorectal cancer, or if you’re older than 75, talk to your doctor about screening.
Colorectal polyps and colorectal cancer don't always cause symptoms
especially at first. That is why getting screened regularly for colorectal cancer is so important. Read more.

Fitness Tips
Why Walk? Why Not!
Walking is a great way to get the physical activity needed to obtain health benefits. Walking does not require any special skills. It also does not require a gym membership or expensive equipment. A single bout of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity can improve sleep, memory, and the ability to think and learn. It also reduces anxiety symptoms. Read more.
