Update

Greetings Health Science Educators!

Many of us have hit the half-way point of the school year and are on the homestretch!

I hope your first half has gone well and that you had a Happy Holiday season!

I am excited to report that you will find something new in the HSE Division starting in February! I strongly feel that we learn the most from each other in conversation. This was evident by the last session of the VISION Conference. So ... coming Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. EST, we will have the first-ever HSE-STAT (Support Topics, All Teachers).

Thank you for all you do, you are amazing teachers, and ACTE is always here for support and encouragement as well as professional growth and development.

Keep up the great work, it isn’t going unnoticed!

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” — Helen Keller

With gratitude,

Health Science Education Division News

Membership

I am happy to report that the Health Science Education Division is at an all-time high for membership! The most recent number I have is from November 2022, and it is 1,572 members! To put that into perspective at the end of the Fiscal Year 2022, we had 1,459! Make sure you encourage your colleagues to join ACTE. Here are the top 10 reasons to become an ACTE member.

VISION Conference

VISION 2022 is in the books and was a huge success. The HSE Division also reported an all-time high for attendance. The last session of the conference was a round-table session that I facilitated. It went so well that with the help of our policy committee, we are making it an online meeting option quarterly! Stay tuned on how to get involved, you won’t want to miss these best practice discussions and networking opportunities.

I also want to give sincere thanks to the HSE sponsors of various events throughout the conference: NCHSE, Anatomage, and HOSA. The HOSA luncheon is back, and we were all thrilled to see the response. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will plan for the next sponsored luncheon at VISION 2023 to accommodate more attendees as well as a more streamlined process to attend. Thank you for your grace and support!

Awards and Honors

The following awards were presented at the HOSA Luncheon:

  • Outstanding CTE Educator: LaDonna Selvidge
  • Award of Merit: Rachel Popham
  • New Teacher of the Year: Shylee Endicott
  • Outstanding Service: LaDonna Selvidge
  • Teacher of the Year: Michael Ogas

I challenge you to look for the wonderful things you or your colleagues are doing and consider submitting an application next year.

Shylee Endicott was also named as the HSE New Professional Fellow for 2023. I look forward to working with her in the future.

VP-elect Position

You may have noticed we had two VP-elect candidates originally on the HSE ballot. Unfortunately, one candidate had to drop out due to a family emergency. This resulted in the removal of the office from the ballot. We will be looking in the upcoming year for candidates to run for my office of VP of HSE. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
