HSE Division News

Your Next Vice President is…

A big congratulations to LaDonna Selvidge, who will assume the role of Division Vice President starting July 1. LaDonna's longstanding service on the HSE policy committee speaks volumes, and I am confident that the division is in capable hands. I'd also like to express gratitude to the other candidates who vied for this position. Putting oneself forward is a significant endeavor, and I want to assure them that there will always be a valued place for them within ACTE HSE leadership. Should you have an interest in participating on a committee for the division, feel free to contact me before my term concludes, and I will ensure your involvement.

Division Award Winners

Congratulations to the following award winners who accepted their award during the 2023 ACTE CareerTech VISION conference.

HSE Outstanding Career and Technical Educator - Jennifer Fisk

HSE Teacher of the Year - Shylee Endicott

HSE STAT

We're preparing to resume quarterly interactive webinars, and the first one is expected to be in March. We welcome new individuals to join in the excitement and contribute as facilitators or presenters. If you're interested in lending a hand or have ideas for collaborative topics, feel free to contact me. Keep an eye out for additional details, which will be shared through an e-blast in the coming month. We hope to have you in attendance; as always there will be a prize for a lucky participant.

Input Requested

The HSE Policy Committee has decided to retire the current name of our division scholarship and is now seeking fresh ideas for a replacement. This scholarship relies entirely on the generous contributions of division members. If you were unable to attend the ACTE's CareerTech VISION conference but wish to contribute, no donation is too small. Please reach out to me to make arrangements.

Additionally, if you have suggestions for a new scholarship name, we invite you to share your ideas by completing this brief survey!

Additional Opportunities

Where in the United States is your ACTE HSE VP?

ACTE's National Policy Seminar (NPS) will be March 17-20 in Arlington, Virginia. One of our strategic plan goals is to get more HSE members in attendance. Come voice your opinion on career and technical (CTE) policy and programming, and share what your community needs, at NPS. Featured sessions will cover best practices for influencing federal policy and CTE advocacy and messaging. And on the last day of the event, March 20, the CTE Research Network will address topics that will help expand the evidence base for CTE. For more information, please follow the following link.

Region V Conference, April 9-12 in Honolulu, Hawaii

This event is sold out and I can’t tell you how excited I am to engage with my friends from Region V again and get out of the frigid North Dakota cold.

As I conclude this winter edition of our HSE Division newsletter, let the words of educator Rita Pierson linger in our hearts:

"Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be."

May each of you continue to be champions, inspiring and guiding the future health professionals of tomorrow. Stay warm, stay inspired, and until spring, let the spirit of dedication and passion guide your path.

Wishing you a wonderful winter season!
