As part of the Lung Screening, Tobacco, and Health research lab at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Kathryn Taylor, PhD, professor of oncology, and Randi Williams, PhD, assistant professor of oncology, co-lead research that is especially relevant to underserved communities who are often the target of tobacco product marketing.

The Brelidze Lab: A Story of Collaboration and Scientific Resilience

When Tinatin “Tina” Brelidze, PhD, began looking at universities to start a lab following her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, she sought to join a collaborative environment with a strong student population and vibrant cultural community. Georgetown University Medical Center fit the bill, and in 2013 she joined the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology.

Public Health Guidance

COVID-19, flu and other respiratory illnesses have surged nationwide, including in DC. The Georgetown public health team says if you have not received your annual vaccinations for COVID-19 and the flu, it’s not too late. 


Vaccine clinics will be held on campus on January 23 and January 30, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., in Bulldog Alley in the Leavey Center next to Hoya Court. The 2023 COVID-19 vaccine will be available at these clinics. Register in advance here, and bring your GOCard and insurance information.

Accelerating Innovation: Funding Your Biomedical Technology through the NIH SBIR/STTR Programs

On February 6 at 2:00 p.m., program directors from the National Cancer Institute’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Development Center will present funding opportunities for biomedical innovators as well as application tips, programs, and entrepreneurial resources available to small business applicants and grantees. ‘Trashman’ Screening and Discussion

On January 17, the Georgetown University Center for Health Equity and the Rodham Institute will present a screening of “Trashman,” which depicts a personal exploration of the filmmaker’s neighborhood trash pollution problem and the response of community activists in Washington, DC’s Ward 8. A post-screening discussion will include the filmmaker, members of the Georgetown community, leaders from Wards 7 and 8, and activists and representatives from local nonprofit organizations. 


The event starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (701 Mississippi Ave, SE, Washington, DC). RSVP here.
