After being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December, U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) chose Georgetown’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center for his treatment. On September 26, Raskin returned to Georgetown to discuss his experiences and thank his treating physician at the third annual Edward M. Kovach Cura Personalis Endowed Lecture.

Lucile Adams-Campbell, PhD, and Richard Schlegel, MD, PhD, were recently appointed Distinguished University Professors, a distinction reserved for faculty members whose extraordinary accomplishments in scholarship, teaching and service have earned them significant recognition.
Adams-Campbell, professor of oncology, associate director for minority health and health disparities at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and GUMC's senior associate dean for community outreach and engagement, was selected for her important contributions to understanding and addressing health disparities in the DC community and beyond.

Schlegel, professor and Oscar B. Hunter Chair of the Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine, and director of the Center for Cell Reprogramming, was selected for his seminal research leading to the first vaccine to prevent cancer.
Adams-Campbell and Schlegel will be honored for their accomplishments at the Georgetown University Fall Faculty Convocation on October 30.

The GUMC Staff Community Award honors colleagues who show positivity, perseverance and resilience in their work and go above and beyond on behalf of our community. Awardees will be nominated by students, staff, administrators or faculty members, and chosen by the GUMC Staff/AAP Caucus committee and select others. The Georgetown University HoyaMed Pride Alliance is seeking volunteers for potential faculty mentors and safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ medical students. Faculty mentors would serve as a valuable resource in medical students’ career development and in providing them a safe place to discuss any issues that may arise in their education. The students are seeking two types of mentors: LGBTQIA+ identified faculty members and LGBTQIA+ ally faculty members.
