Global Health Student’s Interest in Migrant Health Motivated By Personal Experiences

Receiving the David F. Andretta Summer Research Fellowship gave Iman Ibrahim (H’24), a global health major with a minor in Arabic, the opportunity to spend five weeks in Turkey working on a project titled “Medicine and Migration: Understanding Operational and Social Challenges to Service Delivery and Healthcare Decision-Making for Syrian Migrants in Turkey.”

Dozens of Georgetown students rolled up their sleeves during the lunch hour recently to receive their annual flu vaccine shot from their classmates at the School of Nursing, building a sense of community across campus by demonstrating how Hoyas take care of each other.

Center for Health Equity Hosts Open House October 12

The Center for Health Equity will host an open house on Thursday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Warwick Evans Conference Room, Building D. Attendees will learn more about the Center for Health Equity Advisory Committee and subcommittees in community engagement, research, mentorship, education, training and faculty development. “Pavilion Progress” Offers Latest Updates on Verstandig Pavilion

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's “Pavilion Progress” newsletter features new images of the Verstandig Pavilion in preparation for its opening. The activation of the pavilion begins Dec.10 when patients will start being seen in the new emergency department. Beginning on Dec. 11, all surgeries will be performed in the new state-of-the-art operating rooms in the pavilion and inpatient units will begin being relocated to the pavilion. All inpatient unit moves expected to be complete by Dec. 12.

Nominations for the GUMC Staff Community Award Due by November 17

The GUMC Staff Community Award honors colleagues who show positivity, perseverance and resilience in their work and go above and beyond on behalf of our community. Awardees will be nominated by students, staff, administrators or faculty members, and chosen by the GUMC Staff/AAP Caucus committee and select others. Up to two awardees will be selected each quarter to receive a $1,250 cash award and recognition celebration with GUMC leadership. Learn more about the award and submit nominations here.
