Historic Master’s Program in Physiology Prepares Students for Medical School While Teaching the Value of Community Service

Students in the Special Master’s Program in Physiology are assigned to spend most Fridays during their academic year volunteering for a local organization. Among these opportunities is the chance to assist a blind dragon boat rowing league.

As part of Georgetown’s Special Master’s Program in physiology, the first of its kind in the U.S., students get a second chance to prove their fitness for the rigors of a medical school education while learning about Jesuit values through community service.

Student-Run Ambulance Service Celebrates 40 Years of Caring for Fellow Students

In 1983, a group of undergraduate students started a medical ambulance service for fellow students on foot. Forty years later, the group has grown into one of the largest student-run ambulance services among colleges and universities in the U.S.

BGE Ph.D. Candidate Wins ARCS Scholar Award for Pancreatic Cancer Research

Zoe Malchiodi

Tumor Biology doctoral candidate Zoe Malchiodi was named a 2023-24 award recipient of the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation. The award will support her dissertation research on the mechanisms of immune cell interactions in pancreatic cancer.

The Angel Book Drive is an opportunity for members of the Georgetown community to bring the gift of reading to children and young adults in the Washington, D.C. area who have limited access to reading materials. Please join us this year by donating a copy of your favorite new or gently used children’s book, or select a book from the Angel Book Drive wish list. Books may be dropped off at collection sites in the Building D lobby, the Pre-Clinical Science Building in front of Dahlgren Memorial Library or the front lobby of St. Mary’s Hall.

This holiday season, medical students are raising funds to purchase gifts and host a holiday party for children living at The Triumph, a temporary housing facility in southeast Washington, DC operated by Community of Hope. Donate to support the HOYA Clinic Holiday Toy Drive.

Mary’s Center Toy Drive Seeking Donations

In partnership with the School of Nursing Committee on Mission and Values, the Mary’s Center Holiday Toy Drive provides gifts for more than 1,000 children during the holiday season. Donations may be made through the Mary’s Center Holiday Toy Drive Amazon Wish List through Dec. 20.
