Celebrating the Life of Arthur Hoyte, Founder of the GEMS Program |
Arthur Hamilton Hoyte, MD, founder of the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) program, died October 26 after a brief illness. In 1976, Hoyte founded GEMS, a post-baccalaureate experience for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have experienced and/or overcome significant challenges. Hoyte’s educational legacy looms large; GEMS has prepared over 900 graduates, including over 564 physicians and 252 other health care professionals. Remembering Worta McCaskill-Stevens, Georgetown Honorary Degree Recipient and School of Medicine Alumna |
Medical oncologist Worta McCaskill-Stevens (M'85) is remembered as a tireless champion for her work addressing cancer disparities. The founding director of the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), and a Georgetown alumna and honorary degree recipient, died peacefully on November 15. In her 2017 School of Medicine commencement address, McCaskill-Stevens told the graduating class, "Recognize the light within you. See yourself with your own eyes and love yourself with your own heart ... Please know that you have everything you need inside you." The last day for COVID-19 PCR testing via the Shield T3 vending machines on campus will be December 15.
Students can access PCR testing via the MedStar Georgetown University Student Health Center. Students, faculty and staff can also access PCR testing via One Medical. The Student Health Center and One Medical will bill your health insurance providers first for services provided, and you or your family are responsible for any charges not covered by insurance.
If you receive a positive test result from an antigen or PCR test, please report your result through the COVID-19 Test Result Submission form.
