The U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council Launches “University Network for Afghan Women”

Based at Georgetown University, the U.S.-Afghan Women’s council launched the “University Network for Afghan Women,” an alliance of 11 founding colleges and universities from across the U.S. and beyond in collaboration with the American University of Afghanistan focused on supporting Afghan women and girls who face some of the worst discrimination in the world.

Georgetown Study Explores THC/CBD Combination to Reduce Dementia-related Agitation at the End of Life

In a first-of-its-kind trial, the Georgetown University Medical Center Memory Disorders Program will study the effects of an oral drug called T2:C100, which comprises two components found in marijuana - THC and CBD. The goal of the study is to investigate its potential to decrease agitation experienced by those with dementia at the end of life.

In observance of Ash Wednesday, a Mass and distribution of ashes will be held on February 14 at 12:05 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Chapel (SW 104) in Med-Dent. Individual blessings and ashes will also be available after Mass at the chapel, 12:45 - 1:15 p.m. All are welcome.

Deadline Approaching: Submit Nominations for the GUMC Staff Community Award by February 16

Gold Star

The GUMC Staff Community Award honors colleagues who show positivity, perseverance and resilience in their work, and go above and beyond on behalf of our community. Nominations may be submitted by students, staff, administrators or faculty members, and recipients will be chosen by the GUMC/Staff AAP Caucus Committee and select others. 


Up to two awardees will be selected each quarter to receive a $1,250 cash award. Learn more about the award and submit nominations here by 5:00 p.m. on February 16.

FDI Seeking Faculty Input on Curriculum Review Checklists

GUMC’s Faculty Development Committee Subcommittee on Faculty Diversity & Inclusion (FDI) is collaborating with the Racial Justice Committee for Change (RJCC) to support faculty reviewing and updating their curricula and associated instructional materials. To that end, the FDI is seeking faculty volunteers willing to participate in a one-time 45-60 minute focus group discussion via Zoom to share perspectives on the utility, feasibility and acceptability of using these tools. If you are interested, please complete this form by February 14.

The Center for Research & Fellowships has begun advising for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for current juniors, seniors and graduate students who are interested in applying in fall 2024 for the 2025-26 grant year. Applicants can apply to conduct a research project, pursue graduate study and serve as English teaching assistants. Pilot Funding Opportunity: Center for Neuroengineering

Building on the success of last year’s pilot funding program, the Center for Neuroengineering (CNE) is requesting applications for the 2024 Pilot Funding Program to further grow the neuroengineering community at Georgetown and foster collaborations with CNE partners. There are two budget categories, $25,000 and $50,000, and the deadline for applications is April 1 with funding to start on July 1. Please email neuroengineering@georgetown.edu with questions or to obtain informal feedback regarding the fit of specific project ideas.
