In celebrating 50 years of the nurse-midwifery program at Georgetown, the School of Nursing chose to honor one of their own, Ebony Marcelle (N’04), CNM, MS, FACNM, with the event’s keynote address. Marcelle, who has dedicated her career to confronting racism within health care systems, will focus her remarks on the role of midwives in addressing maternal health disparities.

Safe Babies Safe Moms announced the launch of a project using artificial intelligence to build a safety surveillance system. The project will allow health systems to identify risks and tailor care to birthing individuals and their babies.

New GUMC Staff Community Award Announced | The newly announced GUMC Staff Community Award honors colleagues who show positivity, perseverance and resilience in their work and go above and beyond on behalf of our community. Awardees will be nominated by students, staff, administrators or faculty members, and chosen by the GUMC Staff/AAP Caucus committee and select others. AAMC Honors Jones with ACE Award | |
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) honored Lee Jones, MD, dean for medical education at the School of Medicine, as one of five champions of academic medicine with the inaugural AAMC Advocacy, Collaboration and Education (ACE) Award. The awards were presented September 21 during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 52nd Annual Legislative Conference.
Awardees “collaborate with the nation’s medical schools, teaching hospitals, and academic health systems to advance and improve the health of patients, families and communities everywhere.”

The Georgetown University HoyaMed Pride Alliance is seeking volunteers for potential faculty mentors and safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ medical students. Faculty mentors would serve as a valuable resource in medical students’ career development and in providing them a safe place to discuss any issues that may arise in their education. The students are seeking two types of mentors: LGBTQIA+ identified faculty members and LGBTQIA+ ally faculty members.
