Dear Summit Families,

As has been the case since the pandemic took hold back in March, our primary focus has been the safety and well-being of our students, families and staff. Our goal throughout the school year has been to remain open for in-person school as long as we believed it was safe and healthy to do so. Our staff has worked extremely hard to implement plans and practices, even obtaining an A+ rating from the Metro Health Department for our COVID-19 protocols. Unfortunately, as the number of local cases continue to rise, Summit Academy has begun to experience our own challenges.

The High School transitioned to Remote Learning last week, and as communicated yesterday, the Middle School was also moving to Remote Learning effective tomorrow. Following an increase of diagnosed and suspected cases communicated over the past 48 hours, we have made the tough decision to move the entire school to Remote Learning effective tomorrow, November 9. Tykes’ Peak (K) should look for a separate communication coming from Mrs. Lape.

To remain transparent as possible, we have had additional faculty and students test positive for COVID-19 in the High School, an additional positive case has been reported for the Middle School, and we also have a Primary student who is exhibiting symptoms and is awaiting results after their parent has already tested positive. We have also received communication from other parents and family members of students testing positive. With the amount of staff being required to quarantine per Summit Academy and Louisville Metro Public Health Department protocols, we do not believe we can realistically move forward with in-person school at this time.

Mrs. Hoffmann will be sending out Remote Learning schedules later this afternoon. Please be sure to look for communications throughout the day. We will work with you to be certain your child has everything they need for this transition. Your patience and understanding during this process is greatly appreciated. Updates with a projected plan for a return to in-person school and classroom specific information will be sent tomorrow.

Please feel free to contact the Main Office tomorrow if you have any questions.

Warmest regards,

Douglas L. Strothman
Head of School
