We have prepared for months for a responsible return to in-person learning at Omaha Public Schools. This week brought the culmination of that planning as we completed the final phase of our return. Our high schools and other programs welcomed the remaining group of students in the Family 3/2 Model.

“We are thankful for the hard work of our staff, the resiliency of our students and the support of our families as we proceed with our return to in-person learning,” said Dr. Cheryl Logan during Monday’s Board of Education meeting. “The enthusiasm, care and compassion of our staff is evident throughout Omaha Public Schools.”

Some students chose to remain in our Remote Learning Program during our phased return. Providing both options allows our families to select a learning model that best meets their needs at this time. It also helps our schools continue to educate students responsibly in an environment with enhanced social distancing and other layered health and safety precautions.

Staff COVID-19 testing also continues as we take additional steps to support a successful return to in-person learning. We must remain vigilant in our school communities and beyond to ensure our students continue to learn uninterrupted.

“As we proceed with our return, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant in daily life at school, work and at home,” urged Dr. Logan. “The more precautions we take when out and about, the better chance we have.”

Omaha Public Schools will also continue to provide support for the emotional well-being of our students and staff as we prioritize the health and safety of all and work together to limit the spread of COVID-19.
This week is National School Bus Safety Week. We have a dedicated transportation team at Omaha Public Schools, working hard each day to ensure safety remains a priority for our bus riders. The video below offers are a few tips and reminders of the enhanced safety measures in place this year.
Every day before they leave home, families must complete a self-health assessment, asking themselves three vital questions:

  1. Has your child had a fever of 100.4 or greater, a new cough, new onset of shortness of breath, new loss of taste or smell in the last 24 hours?
  2. Is your child waiting for a COVID-19 test result due to symptoms or a close contact exposure?
  3. Has anyone in your household been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days?

If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, you will be expected to stay home.
COVID-19 Testing and Healthcare Available through OneWorld Community Health Centers
Coronavirus testing is available for adults and children with symptoms at OneWorld Community Health Centers. Testing is done at our South Omaha location. To make an appointment, please call (402) 734-4110.

You do not need to be a OneWorld Community patient to be tested.


OneWorld’s school-based health centers are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. for immunizations, wellness visits, minor injuries and physicals. Personal counseling is also available. Omaha Public Schools students and staff are welcome.

Visits for those with flu or coronavirus symptoms will be conducted by tele-health.
