March is National Nutrition Month! 2019 is an exciting year for Nutrition with the release of
Canada’s new Food Guide.
The main heathy eating messages are to:
1.
eat a variety of healthy foods including vegetables, fruits, whole grains and protein and;
2.
limit highly processed foods.
The guide also acknowledges that healthy eating is MORE than the foods you eat. It is about WHERE, WHEN, WHY and HOW you eat.
The new guide encourages Canadians:
1.
to be MINDFUL of your eating habits;
2.
to COOK more often and;
3.
to ENJOY your food.
Unfortunately we are living in a culture that relies too heavily on processed, packaged and take-out foods. Why is this? Canadians are busy! Almost half (49%) of Canadians find it at least somewhat challenging to eat a balanced diet when they are busy.
