After 17 years of dedicated service, our Chief Executive Officer, Kim Irwin, will be stepping down from her role at Health by Design and the Indiana Public Health Association (IPHA) at the end of this calendar year. In reflecting on her time with us, Kim shared:
“This decision comes with mixed emotions, but it’s an exciting opportunity for fresh leadership to take the helm, and for me to pursue new professional challenges. I am deeply grateful for the partnerships and relationships we’ve built over the years, and I’m incredibly proud of the positive impact we’ve made in communities across Indiana.”
Kim has guided Health by Design since 2008, collaborating across sectors and disciplines to ensure communities in Indiana and beyond have neighborhoods, public spaces, and infrastructure that promote healthy, active living. Under her leadership, Health by Design has grown in both scope and impact, and since 2019, has provided management services to IPHA. Kim’s leadership and contributions to both organizations have been invaluable, and her legacy will be long-lasting. She holds a Master of Public Health from the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. Her prior work experience includes health promotion activities and program and administrative management for the American Lung Association, the IUSM and in senior services. She has provided volunteer leadership to the League of Women Voters of Indianapolis and was a member of Governor Eric Holcomb’s Public Health Commission.
As Health by Design and the Indiana Public Health Association prepare for this transition, the search is underway for a new Chief Executive Officer who will build on our strong foundation and guide the next chapter of growth and impact.
The CEO will be responsible for providing collaborative senior leadership to elevate Health by Design as a leader in the public health field, fulfill the organization’s equity mission, ensure it long-term sustainability, and maintain a culture that supports a high-functioning and collaborative team. Key responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Vision and Organizational Leadership
- Project Leadership, Consultation and Communications
- Financial and Organizational Development and Sustainability
The successful candidate will have strong personal competencies, skills, and characteristics related to a passion for the mission and program and policy development; strategic leadership and management; and partnership development.
