CDC Drops Five-day COVID Isolation Guidelines

The CDC has revised its COVID-19 isolation guidance for community settings, dropping the previous 5-day isolation recommendation after a positive test. The change marks the first time the agency has revised its coronavirus guidelines since 2021. Under the new guidelines, individuals in community settings can end isolation once their symptoms improve and they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication, aligning with flu guidance.

Healthcare personnel should continue to follow CDC’s guidance for managing Healthcare Personnel with SARS-CoV2 Infection, which is current as of September 23, 2022.

Nursing homes will need to continue to follow these guidelines: Infection Control: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) | CDC.
