Announcing 2022 HCEG Top 10 – Focusing on Priorities
Over the past two years, the pandemic has exposed gaps and flaws in the healthcare delivery system and emphasized the case for change across nearly all aspects of healthcare - with has impacted the priorities healthcare executives are focusing on in 2022 and beyond. Unsurprisingly, the newly released 2022 HCEG Top 10 reflects a mix of historical core priorities, the fleshing out of some priorities identified shortly after the pandemic began in early 2020, and the evolution of healthcare priorities making their business impact clear and superseding past challenges, issues, and opportunities.

The 2022 HCEG Top 10 - developed using the input of 134 members of the HCEG Network and a review of almost 600 items culled from 80+ lists of healthcare predictions for 2022 – has been finalized. The priorities identified on this list are being used to develop information sharing, presentation opportunities with sponsors and partner organizations, and as the foundation for the 11th Annual Industry Pulse research effort.
See Overview of Developing the 2022 HCEG Top 10 for additional information and see below for more about the Industry Pulse research – which is based on the 2022 HCEG Top 10 and now in its 11th year.
HCEG Board Expands with New Members
The HealthCare Executive Group is honored to acknowledge the service of our board members who help guide HCEG - now in its 34th year. After many years of service including several years as HCEG board chair, Kim Sinclair, Chief Information Officer of BMC HealthNet Plan, is stepping down. Kim served HCEG well and provided valuable guidance throughout her membership. Best wishes to Kim!

Three new C-suite healthcare executives are joining the HCEG board and we’re fortunate to have their unique insight and experiences help guide the HealthCare Executive Group
Van Wong – Chief Operating Officer at Central California Alliance for Health
Van joined the Alliance in November 2019 as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2022. Van currently holds a Board position as President for Women in Healthcare Information Technology (WHIT), is a Certified Healthcare Insurance Executive (CHIE) as recognized by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), and also serves on the Board of the Santa Cruz Health Information Organization (SCHIO). Van’s deep technology and healthcare operations experience will serve HCEG well.
Bhaskar Chowdhury - Chief Technology Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City
Bhaskar is Department Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (BlueKC). Prior to joining BlueKC, Bhaskar was Associate Vice president of Information Technology for Geisinger Insurance Operations where he was responsible and accountable for operations and the long-term technology strategy for the Information Technology department. Like Van, Bhaskar brings a solid mix of technology, operations, and strategic planning to HCEG’s board
Tim Riley, Chief Information Officer at Network Health
Tim oversees Network Health’s technology and software modernization initiatives and business system support programs.

Tim has more than 35 years of leadership experience spearheading technology initiatives, supporting new products and services, along with building service-oriented IT leadership teams. He specializes in deriving operations value out of current systems investments and developing sustainable technology roadmaps.
We’re excited to add the collective knowledge and expertise of these three healthcare executives to HCEG’s board and thankful for the service of all HCEG board members as we collectively navigate through these difficult and uncertain times. The Industry Pulse – Diving Into 2022 HCEG Top 10
The Industry Pulse research provides a more in-depth analysis into the sentiments of healthcare leaders – primarily leaders of health plans, health systems, and care provider organizations – on specific focus areas of the 2022 HCEG Top 10.

Over the past 10 years, the Industry Pulse has been created and presented in partnership with long-time HCEG sponsor Change Healthcare. For this year’s 11th Annual Industry Pulse, HCEG is partnering with WEDI: the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange to create, administer, and present the Industry Pulse. Development kicked off last week with professionals from both HCEG and WEDI beginning to identify specific topics and create supporting content.

The Industry Pulse survey is expected to be available to all healthcare professionals by the end of February with data collection, insight analysis, and presentation taking place in March.

HCEG's Return to In-Person Conference Events
HCEG is currently developing both virtual and in-person presentation and networking opportunities. We’re recruiting organizations and HCEG members to participate in Focus Area Roundtables – small group discussions that take a deeper dive into the specific value-creating technologies, initiatives, programs, operational approaches, tactics, and detailed ideas supporting individual HCEG Top 10 focus areas.

Additionally, after two years of operating in an all-virtual environment, HCEG is looking forward to in-person participation at The Healthcare Innovation Congress on May 22-26, 2022 at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, MD. We’re partnering with the ThINc360 organization to bring HCEG content and thought leaders to this new multi-stakeholder meeting.

For more information on this HCEG Partner event, visit the ThINc360 website, see the agenda here and reach out to us for more information on HCEG’s participation.
HCEG is also discussing in-person presentation partnership opportunities with other organizations and may host an Annual Forum in late Q3 or Q4. Information on all HCEG events will be shared in future newsletters and via social channels.
