Insights for Healthcare Leaders & Change-Makers
Dear HCEG Colleagues and Friends:

Times are changing… Priorities are changing… Join the discussions!

As the 1st anniversary of the pandemic passes, it’s clear that more innovation and change have happened over the past year than over the previous decade. Innovative solutions have been tried and tested with some failing, some succeeding, and some with a verdict still outstanding. Now is the time for healthcare leaders to share and explore the impact of these solutions on health and business operations, and what lies ahead for the transformation of the healthcare delivery system.

I urge you to review this newsletter and accept our invitation to join HCEG as we form small-group roundtable discussions on some 2021 HCEG Top 10+ focus areas. Let’s keep innovation and change moving forward as we find healthcare’s “new normal.”

Be safe and stay well,

New Peer-to-Peer Discussion Opportunities
Similar to the Mastermind Group concept created by Napolean Hill almost one century ago, we are in the process of forming peer-to-peer mentoring groups for select themes on the 2021 HCEG Top 10+ list. The goal of these Focus Area Workgroups is to help healthcare executives find solutions to the challenges, issues, and opportunities they face using input and advice from other group members.

A group to address “Healthcare Policy” with a particular focus on the ACA under the new Biden administration has been formed and a first meeting scheduled for March 11th. A second group focused on "Costs & Transparency" is also being assembled and additional workgroups focusing on other 2021 HCEG Top 10+ themes will be assembled in the coming months.

If you’re a healthcare executive interested in the coordination of knowledge and working toward a definite purpose in the spirit of harmony, indicate your area(s) of interest here and we’ll get back to you with details.
Healthcare Policy, ACA 2.0, Enrollment Period Lessons, & The Journey to the Exchange
After years of talk about repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Biden administration acted quickly to express its support for the ACA and broadening the Health Insurance Marketplace. With a special enrollment period currently underway and new options like Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE) and Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRA), health plans and employers have new opportunities to expand coverage opportunities this year and going forward.
Recently, our Executive Director Ferris Taylor and Kevin Deutsch, General Manager & Senior Vice President, Health Plan Cloud of our technology sponsor partner Softheon met to discuss these and related topics. Check out our most recent post that shares highlights of the call and describes content and presentations currently being developed including more on the following:

Costs & Transparency – Building on CMS Mandates to Address Consumer Demand & Experience
As evidenced by its presence on the HCEG Top 10 list each year over the last decade, healthcare costs and transparency have long been a priority of healthcare leaders. And the COVID pandemic has unmasked the impact of costs and transparency on the transition to value-based care and improving the healthcare consumer experience.

Additionally, as Mark Menton, CEO of HealthSparq, shared in a recent interview, mandates regarding costs and transparency are “table stakes for plans. It’s about building on those (mandates) to enable consumer experiences that actually help people.”

To provide support for the Costs & Transparency workgroup, HCEG is partnering with HealthSparq as a technology sponsor partner. A formal announcement with additional details on this new sponsor partnership will be forthcoming.
