Healthy Immune System Basics
  • Sufficient sleep: be sure you are sleeping 8hrs per night
  • Exercise/Activity: 1/2 an hour each day
  • Healthy Diet: limit sugar and junk food
  • Stress: utilize stress relieving techniques i.e. meditation, yoga, breath work
Nutrients to Help the Immune System Thrive

  • Vitamin A: can enhance the immune system by increasing lymphocytes in response to bacteria/viruses. It can also help with maintaining healthy mucosal membranes

  • Vitamin B12: helps with RBC prodcution, cell immunity, and natural killer cells (defense cells)

  • Vitamin C: aids in WBC scavenging. Leucocytes especially have high concentration of ascorbate (a form of vitamin C) within cells and viral infections will cause a decrease in vitamin C within cells

  • Echinacea angustifolia (echinacea): helps with bacteria resistance by stimulating cell destruction and aiding in fighting viral infections

  • Hydrastis canadensis (goldenseal): antimicrobial and astringent effects. Helps with the soothing of mucus membranes and defense against pathogens causing sore throat, and common colds. Helps with pathogenic barrier

  • Allicin: found in crushed garlic. Allicin has a variety of anti-microbial activities, anti-parasitic and anti-viral properties.
