Our Grantmaking Priorities

On behalf of the Healthy Lakewood Foundation Board, we reach out to thank you for your continued interest in and support of the Foundation’s evolution and growth. As we reflect on all that has transpired this year, we are grateful to support our grantees to provide responsive services and meet the needs of those most impacted by the ongoing Covid pandemic.

So many organizations have responded to needs within the community, including these grantee partners:

  • Barton Senior Center - Internet connectivity, tablets, and training for residents of the Westerly apartments.
  • Lakewood City Schools – Individualized resources and support to families experiencing barriers and lack of access to basic needs.
  • Legal Aid Society – Legal and outreach services to Lakewood residents.
  • Ohio Guidestone – Wraparound mental health services for students in four Lakewood elementary schools.
  • YMCA of Greater Cleveland – School-day care program to school-age children while learning was in both hybrid and remote models for Lakewood students.

In 2021, HLF has provided $197,688 in grants to nine organizations for Covid-related support services in the City of Lakewood. To see the full list of awarded grants this year, please visit our website.

We recognize the profound challenges that all sectors in Lakewood have faced in providing care, programs, goods, and services. Every system in our community has been tested, as has every community member. We recognize the profound loss and hardship that so many have experienced and also recognize the adaptations and resilience of the Lakewood community. Please watch these short videos of four HLF grant partners sharing stories of responsiveness and hope in the pandemic.

The public health crisis of the Covid pandemic has demonstrated that good health requires much more than just access to medical and health care. During the pandemic, economic, housing, and food insecurity have increased stress and imposed additional barriers to good health for many in our community. HLF believes that social factors such as access to housing, healthy food, reliable transportation, and quality education have a profound impact on health outcomes and disparities. HLF’s funding opportunities in 2022 will be focused on key social determinants of health to fulfill our vision and mission to serve the entire Lakewood community.

It will be an important year for all of us, and we look forward to rebuilding, recovering, and reconnecting despite ongoing challenges. The pandemic’s effects will reverberate in the months and years to come. In the coming weeks, may you find time to reflect on your own adaptiveness this year, and the ways you have provided support and care to yourself and others. May you know your value to your community, family, and friends, and bring this knowing and care with you into 2022.

With great sincerity,
