June is PRIDE Month
It’s June and it is PRIDE Month! It's a time to celebrate and affirm one another and meet one another where they're at.

The word PRIDE can mean different things to different folks, but for American Indian/Alaska Native people, culture and identity are the heart & soul of our being. To meet each other where they are, it is important to be a supportive relative in community with our Two Spirit-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer+ (2SLGBTQ+) people.

In observance of PRIDE month – cultural, sexual and gender the HNY June issue spotlights inclusive HNY website resources. Enjoy this month’s issue and show your PRIDE in your own way!
PRIDE Month Resources
Two Spirit - LGBTQ+ Youth Educator Resources
According to We R Native’s 2020 Youth Health Tech Survey, youth reported the most important topic for them to learn about was identity (native identity or cultural pride). Nearly 40% of youth participants identified as Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, or Queer+ (2S-LGBTQ+).

As caring adults, planning for inclusive, holistic programming that affirms gender identity and sexual orientation are strength-based, cultural protective factors. Here are culturally-relevant health resources to support diverse youth and relatives.

Celebrating Our Toolkit

Brought to you by the Paths (Re)Membered Project, Celebrating our Magic Toolkit is a culturally-specific resource for AI/AN communities and aims to provide resources for transgender and Two-Spirit youth, their relatives, and their healthcare providers. Visit the Paths (Re)Membered website to order a free toolkit!
NEW! HNY Resources 2SLGBTQ+ Page

Healthy Native Youth strives to have a website that is resourceful for educators and caring adults who engage diverse youth. The website has launched a new 2SLGBTQ+ resource page in the Resource Library, that pulls together inclusive videos, text message campaigns, toolkits, and lesson plans.
HNY Website Spotlights
Curriculum Spotlight: Respecting the Circle of Life Mind, Body, & Spirit
Respecting the Circle of Life: Mind, Body, & Spirit is an STI/HIV and pregnancy prevention curriculum for Native American youth and their parents. Respecting the Circle of Life is evidence-based, proven effective by the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health with tribal partners through rigorous evaluation to promote positive youth development and reduce behavioral health risk factors underlying teenage pregnancy in Native communities.

The program gives youth ages 11-19 the knowledge and skills they need to protect themselves and engage in healthy relationships. It covers decision making, values, goal setting, communication, and prevention of alcohol and drug use.
Implementation Toolbox:
Grow Phase ~ Share Successes and Lessons Learned
The goal of the HNY Implementation Toolbox GROW phase is to sustain and grow your program. This phase is a time to reflect on what you are learning on the implementation journey - as you GATHER, CHOOSE, PREPARE, IMPLEMENT, and GROW. At this end of the cycle, use the knowledge you have gained along the way to keep the momentum going! It is a circle, so get ready to GROW from it!
