March 2024

Reaching out for help for Health & Wellness

The month of March begins with Self Injury/Harm Awareness Day.

It is important to collectively come together as a community to raise awareness of self-harm and the underlying issues that impact the mind, the body and the spirit.

March 20th is National Native AIDS Awareness Day -- another symbolic day to promote health education, testing, treatment and prevention.

For Youth & Young Adults: Inspiring the Next Native Generation in Workforce Pathways

We R Native (www.WeRNative.org) is a multimedia health resource designed for Native youth, by Native youth. We R Native has text messaging campaigns to plant the seed in youth to vision about giving back.

  • Text STEM to 94449: Youth can connect to Native professionals who work in STEM fields. The goal is to elevate and re-affirm Native voices in science, technology, engineering, and math.

  • Text HEALER to 94449: Youth can connect with a personal native coach and learn about resources, tips, and ideas to help navigate to become a healer.

  • Text INSPIRE to 94449: Youth will hear diverse Indigenous voices, and the pathways they can take to work in public health. People who work in public health are community protectors.

Seeing is believing and in this era of Indian self-determination, youth voices, energy, and interest in healing can help native communities grow, thrive and flourish!

Tip: Encourage youth and young adults to text STEM to 94449 this month!
