National Native American Heritage Month

Native Pride and Resilience Issue

“Indigenous peoples have the right to the dignity and diversity of their cultures, traditions, histories, and aspirations, which shall be appropriately reflected in education and public information.”

~ (Article 15) U.S. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

November is the month to elevate Native voices from the past, the present, and to celebrate by carrying the messages to future generations. Today, and every day, is the time for Indigenous people – the era of self-determination – acknowledging we are still here, resilient, and embracing native pride and culture as a right.

For 8 years, the Healthy Native Youth collective’s aim is to provide American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth, parents, schools, and communities with a foundation in culture, traditions, histories, and aspirations.

Enjoy this month’s National Native American Heritage Month newsletter as we promote positive youth development, embrace cultural teachings, and raise healthy native youth. We lift our hands up to the next generation who are our ancestors’ dream.

Native It’s Your Game 2.0

Middle School Web-based Sexual Health Curriculum

Native It’s Your Game 2.0 (NIYG) is a 13-lesson on-line sexual health education curriculum for Native middle school youth. It is a free curriculum, and no formal training is required to facilitate NIYG. Facilitators can register a class of students and monitor their progress through the program. Teens who took NIYG reported more reasons not to have sex, increased STI knowledge, helpful condom education, and more likely to seek education beyond high school.

For technical assistance or questions, contact Amrita Sidhu at Amrita.Sidhu@uth.tmc.edu
