The 2024 Pima County

Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA)

We are excited to announce the release of the 2024 Pima County Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). The 2024 CHNA represents an ongoing collaborative effort between nonprofit hospitals, the Pima County Health Department, and key community organizations and partners to identify and prioritize key health issues. The results from the CHNA will guide the Pima County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) - a roadmap for how to address key issues.

The health priorities outlined in the 2024 CHNA are:

Health Priorities

  • Child/Adolescent Health
  • Mental Health
  • Substance Use Disorder

Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Priorities

  • Inflation & Cost of Living
  • Lack of Affordable Housing
  • Roadway safety

Health Equity

One size does not fit all with health improvement initiatives and access to care.

Through equity, we can reach our goal and create a

Healthy Pima County for everyone, everywhere, every day.

The Pima County Health Department (PCHD) is committed to providing equitable care and services to all residents, regardless of language spoken. This year, a Quality Improvement (QI) project, led by the Health Equity Program within the Office of Policy, Resilience, and Equity (PRE), is enhancing the department's Language Line translation service. Initiated in February 2024, the project used staff surveys, pilot programs, and collaboration with PCHD senior leadership to identify key areas for improvement.

PCHD is taking action by:

  • Developing a comprehensive Language Line training for onboarding new staff
  • Distributing resources to all staff
  • Reviewing the Language Line contract to address limitations and explore options for video interpretation and written document translation

These proactive steps aim to enhance the quality of translation services for both staff and the community. Improved language access will ultimately lead to better health outcomes for all Pima County residents.
