HEALTHY RC YOUTH LEADERS CELEBRATE

 MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

Last month, Healthy RC Youth Leaders helped spread mental health awareness and education by distributing HOPE Cards to high school students at Etiwanda High School, Alta Loma High School, Rancho Cucamonga High School, and Los Osos High School. They were joined by over 20 community vendors throughout the region to educate and support thousands of high school students on suicide prevention and access to mental health and wellness resources. Students also received a free suicide prevention training provided by Living Works’, a leading suicide prevention and intervention training company. This training will be accessible to everyone until December 31.

HEALTHY RC ATTENDS CALIFORNIA SCHOOL NUTRITION ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

The Healthy RC Youth Leaders were honored at the California School Nutrition Association Conference for achieving the Let's Eat Healthy Dairy Council award.

Over 150 professionals from across the state gathered to hear about our successful nutrition education initiatives with the youth community in 2023. Our presentation, "Empowering Healthy Choices: Cooking with Rancho Cucamonga Teens," highlighted the achievements of our Teen Summit nutrition education class. The session showcased how the expertise of our Youth Leaders played a pivotal role in imparting healthy behaviors to over 80 participants.

Not only did we share best practice testimonials, we also treated the audience to teen approved recipes that resonated with all school nutrition professionals present. Cheers to empowering healthy choices together!

Sustainability Corner

Prepare for the upcoming holidays by learning five ways to repurpose food scraps at home. Remember, not all food waste has to be thrown into the trash bin.

  • Regrow your produce in water to create new plants from scraps.
  • Boil fruit peels into aromatic teas for cozy evenings.
  • Craft homemade veggie stock using leftover veggie scraps for savory soups.
  • Create delicious snacks by baking vegetable or fruit peels to minimize waste and maximize flavor.
  • Turn used coffee grounds into fertilizer for a greener garden.

Get creative and make a sustainable impact!
