UPCOMING EVENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS
September is Suicide Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month, and as we collectively strive to prevent suicide, we'd like to emphasize the importance of embracing the T.A.S.C. tips outlined below as valuable tools to enhance our prevention efforts.
-
Tune in and notice changes in behavior that are out of the ordinary. Notice the signs; every age group is different.
-
Ask questions, be curious, be an active listener by giving them your full attention. Don't be afraid to ask directly if they are planning or have thought of dying by suicide.
-
State the seriousness. Come from a place of non-judgement and share your concern about their thoughts. Create a safety plan for them and help them be safe at that moment. Ask if they have access to any lethal means (i.e,, weapons or medications) and develop a plan to remove them from their vicinity.
-
Connect them with resources. You can help be their advocate and ask them how they would like to receive help. You can offer to help them call or text the 9-8-8 Life Line or visit 988lifeline.org.
The Department of Education also has a 'Living Works' free training available for those interested in building their skills in preventing suicide in their community.

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is hosting a multi-day compost and mulch giveaway!
Visit one of our two (2) locations to load up on garden essentials:
- Civic Center Dr. at Haven Ave.
- Cucamonga Station - 11208 Azusa Ct.
Each site will be open daily to Rancho Cucamonga residents, September 15 -
October 1, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Here are a few things to know before you go:
- This is a self-serve event. Please come ready with shovels, bags, tarps, containers, and gloves. Be prepared to load the materials to your own vehicle (we recommend bringing a friend or family member along to assist).
- This is a first-come, first-serve event with a limited supply. We are limiting pickups to 1 cubic yard of material (about 5 standard trash bags worth) to allow as many residents to benefit from the giveaway as possible. Commercial trailers and vehicles are not permitted.
- This event is open to Rancho Cucamonga residents only. Proof of residency is required to participate.
- Sites will be periodically restocked. Residents are encouraged to check back and/or visit both sites for material.

Being kind to yourself is essential for your overall well-being. COMMUNITY PARTNER SHOUT OUTS
|
Thank you to those who helped make LOVE RC a success!
On September 9, over 400 volunteers came together to participate in a day of service known as LOVE RC, in partnership with Abundant Living Family Church and the Healthy RC Compassionate Community initiative. Together, we were thrilled to have partnered with various schools and organizations across the City to partake in service projects at nine project locations (trail clean ups, beautification projects, farmers’ market bag distribution, gardening, and community arts activities, and more).
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who attended the Community Fun Day hosted at Los Amigos Park. It was an event filled day complete with bounce houses, complimentary hot dogs prepared by the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District team, gardening, and arts and crafts activities led by Nanette Hart! The LOVE was felt and we appreciate you all!

Congratulations to Douglas Calderon for his first presentation at the Rally Point Wednesday on September 6 at Chaffey College. Veteran and Chaffey Student shared, “Douglas helped me identify three areas that could help me with my personal goals, which are drive, ambition, and purpose. This presentation really made an impact, it was amazing!” Another student shared, "I learned that it’s important to step out of my comfort zone.
