LADY WARWICK:

PORTRAIT OF A CONTROVERSIAL WOMAN

Considered one of the great beauties of the Victorian era, Frances “Daisy” Greville, Countess of Warwick, lived a charmed and controversial life. Both a socialite and socialist, this celebrated wife, mother, and mistress had all the right connections, including a nine-year affair with the Prince of Wales. This lecture recounts the colorful story of Lady Warwick’s monumental portrait of her and her son Maynard painted by John Singer Sargent.

Learn how this larger-than-life likeness of the indomitable Countess left Warwick Castle less than a decade after it was painted to become one of the Worcester Art Museum’s most dramatic acquisitions.
