Volume 310

March 4, 2026

As these CORE visuals exemplify and catalyze, HDI’s Did You Know? program benefits Practices & Patients nationwide.

With our comorbidity education collection Well Known, many ask when, where, and how we got started in developing our research-based and patient-centered content. The answers:

When = Circa 2008

Where = At a major academic medical center, with their Division of Adult Audiology.

How = Having seen Ophthalmology designs we created, this progressive Division aimed to create its own.

With their encouragement, I have deep appreciation (more than words can express) and fond memories of the rigorous process that led to creating our 1st Audiology-focused designs, along with the “Elevate the Profession” motivation.

In retrospect, it was a fine example of Pareto’s Principle, which these pages highlighted early. July 2020’s Volume 16 expressed:

Click pie chart to learn more

Pareto’s Principle, which applies to many aspects of life, states that quite often, 80% of effects or results come from 20% of causes or stimulus. In this case, our data-driven process identifies and proves which go-to email messages may trigger most desired calls to action. By consistently testing, evaluating and adjusting, we discover the best fit for ideal outcomes. Sound familiar?”

In this case, the stated goal was to create a collection of designs which were prioritized according to the patient census this renowned Audiology Center had treated over decades, improving quality of life for likely 10s of 1000s of people. Thus, the methodology was to determine which topics would be included and what research-based format would be broadly applicable and educationally helpful.

Regarding subject matter, the conclusion was to feature these 12 diverse topics:

  • Acoustic Neuromas
  • Auditory Processing Disorder
  • Cochlear Implants
  • Meniere’s Disease
  • Noise-Induced Hearing Loss
  • Presbycusis
  • Serous Otitis Media
  • Sudden Hearing Loss
  • Tinnitus
  • Tympanometry
  • Unilateral Hearing Loss
  • Vestibular System Evaluation

The informative design structure logically flowed through:

What each condition is

Potential causes

Common symptoms

How it is diagnosed

Treatment options

Via this carefully designed format, patients and their loved ones could more easily Hear the Facts and, most importantly, with clearer explanations, understand them and make well-informed decisions.

Here are 3 selected examples of what we refer to, and yes, some aspects are vintage. That’s the point:

Meniere’s Disease

Presbycusis

Unilateral Hearing Loss

As you view these designs, which are the Best Fit for the nature of your patient census? For those Practices intently focused on how hearing loss is an age-related condition, perhaps Presbycusis. How about Meniere’s Disease to share with individuals challenged with vestibular issues? The essential point is this: Your patients and their family members deserve to be knowledgeable about what matters to them. When they look to you for answers, it will serve you well to provide ready access.

We also point out that, given the prevalence of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss, the only type of hearing loss that can be prevented, there are 3 different versions of these designs focused on:

Consumer

Occupational

Agricultural

Cliché but true: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Regarding customization. Beyond updating hearing devices themselves and, of course, practice branding, what other adjustments would you like to make to images or text? Your wish is our command, and we will help bring your visions to life.

Speaking of which…

We also have a unique collection of really cool images that pique interest and elicit conversations. Take a closer look:

Organs of Corti

Otoconia

Cochlear Hydrops

While patients will be fond of seeing and learning from these, your colleagues will also truly enjoy them. After all, the Art of Hearing, beyond the exceptional care you provide, is also the beauty and function of ear anatomy, even in microscopic detail.
