Platform Republican Platform 2016
On July 18, delegates to the Republican National Convention adopted the official 2016 Platform, which declares the Party's principles and policies. The Republican Party is energized to lead a turnaround from the failed policies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and this platform provides a thorough look at how we will restore prosperity and security to our country. It is said to be the most conservative platform by any political party in American history. Please use this platform for your continued efforts to advance the Conservative Movement.

CNP President Tony Perkins was instrumental in the development of the platform. Among the Platform Committee Members were CNP Members Len Munsil and Timothy Houseal
Cards Conservative Action Project Pocket Cards
In April 2016, the Conservative Action Project (CAP) hosted a one-day leadership summit for conservative leaders from across America. They concluded that the 12 issues in the image to the left are the top priorities for the new administration's first 180 days in office. CAP created Pocket Cards that go into greater detail about each of these items, including policy proposals, facts, and messaging tips. Armed with this resource, you will be better equipped to articulate a conservative vision for America.

CAP was founded in 2008 by many conservative leaders with CNP Past President and former Attorney General Edwin Meese III serving as the Founding Chairman. CNP Past President Becky Norton Dunlop is the current Chairman of CAP. CAP is designed to facilitate conservative leaders working together on behalf of common goals.
terror The Committee on Homeland Security Released an Updated Terror Gone Viral Report
On July 20, the Committee on Homeland Security released an updated Terror Gone Viral report as ISIS has now been linked to 100+ plots against the West since 2014. The report shows that a wave of attacks in the past month have helped ISIS reach a record level of plotting. The report makes a number of key findings based on trends in ISIS terror plotting, including:
  • The U.S. is by far the group's top target, and 40 percent of its plots have been directed at Americans.
  • ISIS attacks are getting deadlier and more destructive. There have now have been 1,600+ casualties from its anti-Western attacks.
  • Most ISIS-linked operations have been carried out by independent followers, but the group is increasingly involved in directing plots.
First Amendment Defense Act

Rep. Jody Hice spoke on the House Floor on July 12 in support of the First Amendment, religious liberty, and H.R. 2802, the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA). To view his floor speech, please click here.

On July 22, FADA was revised. While the Family Research Council (FRC) remains committed to the passage of good legislation that protects religious freedom, especially as it relates to views regarding natural marriage, FRC is opposed to the new version of FADA. Please view this Issue Brief to understand why FRC opposes the recent changes. CNP President and CNP Action, Inc. Board Member Tony Perkins serves as the President of FRC.
ServerOversight & Government Reform Committee Reviews FBI's Investigation of Secretary Clinton's Private Email Server

On July 7, FBI Director James Comey testified before the Oversight & Government Reform Committee. This hearing wrap up highlights takeaways from that hearing, including that the Committee will hold a follow-up hearing with the State Department to probe the lax security culture cited by Director Comey. Furthermore, there are key videos from the hearing of Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and Subcommittee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).
CNP Member Jim Gilmore released this press release on July 5 immediately following FBI Director James Comey's announcement that Hillary Clinton will not be prosecuted. In the press release, Governor Gilmore writes, "At a time of great distrust of our government, the Attorney General, Director of the FBI and the President need to reassure the public that they are being honest, by immediately appointing an independent prosecutor to oversee this process. In this case, the American people will never have confidence in this email investigation unless an independent prosecutor is appointed to review the FBI's report, and make an independent decision."
JWJudicial Watch Goes to Court for Hillary Clinton's Testimony
According to last Friday's Judicial Watch Weekly Update, Hillary Clinton sent three lawyers to federal court on Monday, July 18, to convince U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan that she should not have to provide testimony under oath to Judicial Watch. You can review the entire transcript here. Judge Sullivan announced he would rule on the issue as soon as possible.

CNP Member and CNP Action Inc. Board Member Tom Fitton is President of Judicial Watch.
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced on June 30 that the U.S. military is no longer treating male and female troops according to their biology, rather military men and women will be treated as they view themselves. In response, Roger Severino wrote an article entitled Pentagon's Transgender Policy Defies Common Sense in The Daily Signal. He points out, "What the military did not allow before today [June 30] was the disruption to morale, privacy, and readiness that results from a male serviceman demanding the "right" to dress as a female, have others address him as a female, and be granted unfettered access to showers, lockers, bathrooms, and barracks designated for females. That commonsense policy, which has served our country well, was jettisoned today."

The Daily Signal is supported by the resources and intellectual firepower of The Heritage Foundation. CNP Member Jim DeMint is the President of The Heritage Foundation.
The Senate Budget Committee and Chairman Mike Enzi are focused on ways to fix America's broken budget process. Chairman Enzi released this video explaining the broken budget process and why it is is so important to fix it. For more information, visit the Committee website. Chairman Enzi states, "America's budget process no longer fits the problems facing our nation today. In fact, it actually prevents Congress from tackling the pressing fiscal challenges facing our country, including the government's out of control spending and skyrocketing national debt."
