Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus, was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Lord, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Mark 10:46-52 (NIV)
A Reflection:
When Bartimaeus called out to Jesus, Jesus saw his faith. He heard his call and asked him, "what do you want me to do for you?" Bartimaeus knew what he wanted. He wanted to see, so that is what he told Jesus.

Jesus is our loving friend. He wants us to be in constant communication with him, telling him what we are excited for, what we are angry about, or when we are confused. Telling Jesus what we want is different from demanding he gives us what we want. We don't know what will happen, but it never hurts to tell your friend Jesus what is on your heart or what you are hoping for. He loves you so much!

  • If Jesus asked you, "what do you want me to do for you?" what would you say?
  • What is something exciting you can tell Jesus about?
  • What is something you are confused or nervous about that you can share with Jesus?

A Prayer:
Try praying to Jesus like you are talking to a friend!
"Dear Jesus, I had a great time doing _______. I really miss ________. I am struggling with _______. I am so thankful for _______." He will love to hear from you.

As adults, we can be inspired by the way the positive, inclusive outlook young children have. They invite us to see the time we spend with them not as an opportunity to teach a lesson or get more done, but to make lasting memories simply by being together.
