Parents in the faith, spiritual mothers especially, have hope for their children in the face of troubles. ~ Pastor Alex

THIS SUNDAY WE SHOW OUR SUPPORT OF EPWORTH! On Sunday, May 10 our church will receive

the Annual Epworth Mother’s Day Offering to provide loving care, safety, and services for the children, youth and families served by Epworth through all of its programs. This offering is our opportunity to support this vital ministry. Give generously by using the envelope provided for you in the bulletin or make a gift online at www.epworthsc.org/ donate. For more information about Epworth, visit them online at www.epworthsc.org where you can also choose to make a secure credit card donation or enroll for monthly contributions which help Epworth throughout the year.

Epworth Children’s Home was founded in 1896, with a mission of serving children whose families could not care for them. In 2025, 2,230 children, youth, and families were served because they had experienced some form of trauma. After 130 years, the mission remains the same: to serve children, youth and families through caring, safe, Christian communities, where hurts are healed, hope is nurtured and faith in God, self and others is developed.

Epworth ensures the children are surrounded by loving Christian adults who work hard to create a warm, friendly and welcoming environment so that the children feel safe. Only then can they learn to break the cycle of abuse, neglect, and shame and replace it with a life of self-respect,

responsibility, and productivity.

How does Epworth do this work? Because of our generosity. Epworth relies heavily on the contributions received through the Mother’s Day offering to provide direct care for the children who live on campus, those in foster and kinship care and the children and families receiving care and support through Epworth’s variety of programs across our state. Please pray for Epworth and its clients and please prayerfully consider your part in supporting the work that

Epworth does to make a difference in the lives of children and families every day.

The Great 50 Days:

“Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again!” Every time we celebrate Holy Communion, we remind ourselves of this good news. From now until May 24th we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. In the church Easter is actually 50 days long! Jesus rose on Easter Sunday, but he appeared to his disciples for 40 days and then ascended into heaven. Then ten days later he sent the Holy Spirit to anoint the disciples at Pentecost. Make time to celebrate the new life that we have through the resurrection of Jesus, not just today, but every day!

Have you lost or misplaced your church nametag? Here is how to order a new one…

Located in the Atrium and Narthex are small manila envelopes with an order form label on the front. Fill out your name(s) and select the type of nametag backing you prefer -- pin, *magnet, or clip. (*Note specifications for a magnet-style badge.) Place the appropriate payment in the envelope and give it to a greeter at the service you attend. The greeter will deliver to the church office for ordering.

The office will place the order(s) with Ralph’s Trophy Shop, pick them up when ready, and contact you when it has arrived and where to retrieve it. Please contact the

church office if you have any further questions.

METHODIST HOMES

RESIDENTS' ASSISTANCE

This year we have been exploring Saint Mark’s apportionments to better understand our support of the world wide ministry of the church. Apportionments are the funds that Saint Mark UMC gives for the ministry of the larger United Methodist Church, and they would make up about 8% of our annual budget if we included them all. Today we are highlighting the apportionment for Methodist Homes Residents’ Assistance.

This fund supports the residents of the Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee, Wesley Common in Greenwood, and the Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg. This fund helps residents who have outlived their means so that they can stay at the Methodist Home in which they are residing.

“Our-portion-ment” for Methodist Homes Residents’ Assistance is $1,397 this year. Half of that has been included in the budget for 2026. Please give faithfully so that Saint Mark can hopefully support these apportionments in full.

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and gave them the ability to speak in different languages.

On Pentecost Sunday, May 24th, we will reenact that event as we read about the day of Pentecost from Acts 2:1-11. We will do this by having different members of the congregation, who speak languages other than English, read aloud the Pentecost account while it is being read in English from the pulpit.
