Prayer Focus for This Week
We pray for the political leadership in the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe. May their citizens be led out of turmoil and towards harmony.

We pray for those who are at the beginning: those who are starting new jobs, those who are moving, and those who are welcoming new children.

We pray for the unemployed and the unpaid.

We pray for families: couples who are marrying, women who are pregnant or hoping to become pregnant, couples who are divorcing, the caregivers, and the ones needing care.

We pray for all who work for justice and for all who seek the truth.

We pray for the people improving our communities: the blood, bone marrow, and organ donors; the educators; the volunteers; and the funders.

We pray for the people who feed us: the hands in the fields and on the farms, the hands that package and test foods, and the hands that cook meals.

We pray for those working in health care and for those in their care, for the hungry and the obese, for the disabled, and for those who are healing.

We pray for all people making difficult choices.
We pray for those who are at the end: the coming home, the graduating, the retiring, the grieving, and the dying.

We thank you for the abundance of grace you give to each of us so that we may give grace to the world.

Have you been watching the NFL playoffs? Well, when the Super Bowl gets here on Sunday, February 3, so does the Souper Bowl of Caring! Our Saint Mark youth will be hoping to fill their soup pots with money during the alms offering that day, and they have decided to give the proceeds to the Golden Corner Food Pantry.

But wait, there's more! Because the food pantry is in the middle of a dollar-for-dollar match through the end of February, your alms offering will go twice as far towards feeding your Oconee County neighbors in need. Thank you for your generosity as we try to fill the soup pots on "Souper Bowl Sunday"!

For more information, click here to contact Donna Poston, Minister of Youth and College Discipleship.

Comes Our Way
Friday, February 8, 6 - 10 pm
Saturday, February 9, 9:30 am - 6 pm

There will be live streaming the IF:Gathering in the Saint Mark Commons Room, and all are welcome!

IF:Gathering is a discipleship weekend that takes place in Dallas, TX, which has grown into an international movement. You can learn more about IF:Gathering by clicking here.

There is a local team of women who have a heart for bringing the inspiration of the IF weekend to Oconee county, and who are hard at work planning a viewing of this streamed material which will take place in March at Foothills Church.

To our benefit, they will gather to watch the live streaming of the weekend in the Saint Mark Commons Room and have invited the women of Saint Mark to join! It will be a time to relax, form new friendships, and be inspired! Any woman interested in coming to all or any part of it can click here to email Pastor Shawna for more information or click here to RSVP.

It's That Time Again!!

Our Wings for the Lord youth choir is gearing up for their summer tour in July.  One of their biggest fundraisers is their annual ginormous garage sale. But they need lots of items to sell.  Chances are that you have stuff you don't want or need any more.  Start putting these items aside for the sale. Watch for more details.

We are NOW collecting jewelry for the Wings Garage Sale. A drop box is located in Church Office.

Mission Trip Opportunity

We have decided to forego a trip to Eleuthera this spring - too many conflicts and hopes of a new focus beginning in 2020, but we are pursuing an alternative for those of you, who like us, want to be in mission on behalf of Saint Mark and the Methodist church.

We have made a tentative reservation through Rev. Pam Carter, volunteer coordinator  for the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church for our church for the week of May 4-11, 2019.  Organization of the recovery effort was still ongoing as of the time of our contact with Pam, but there is plenty to do!  We do not yet know the exact nature of what we would be doing, although it is likely to include "mucking" of houses rendered uninhabitable by Hurricane Michael and other rebuilding efforts.

If you would be interested in this possibility, please click here to contact Bob or Lynn Dobson or call (864) 723-1854 or (864) 247-1320.  We do not yet have budgetary information but expect the cost/participant to be under $1,000 - perhaps around $500.  The area of our effort would be the Florida panhandle.

CHURCH AND SOCIETY
38 United Methodists Serve in the
116th Congress

The newly started 116th Congress has 38 United Methodists among its members. That marks a decline of two from the 115th Congress.

There are 10 United Methodists in the Senate, and 28 in the House. They are serving in a Congress with fewer Christians and slightly more religious diversity, including the first two Muslim women ever to serve in Congress.
