Bon voyage to Truffles the pot bellied pig!

Earlier this month, we bid adieu to Truffles the pot bellied pig, who had been boarding at Heartland for over a year. Truffles originally came to Heartland because her mom was living in a location where pigs were not allowed. While she looked for a pig-friendly place to live, Truffles made many human and animal friends at Heartland. We're happy to report that Truffles found a pig-friendly paradise and is back with her mom!

We will miss you, Truffles! Don't forget to visit!
Check out the Heartland Barn Blog!

Heartland is proud to feature our new monthly Barn Blog written by the supremely talented
Shelby Deering, a lifestyle writer who has written for American Girl Magazine, BRAVA and The Isthmus. We're extremely fortunate to have Shelby bringing you the latest from the barn every month. The Barn Blog features news on our animal rescues, people programs, special events - plus heartwarming stories you just won't find anywhere else.

Heartland thanks you!
November Volunteer of the Month: Patty Subach
Patty has been a longtime member of the Friday morning animal care crew and is also a Stable Supporter for Heartland! Every week, Patty brings in something special for the animals and for the other staff and volunteers. Recently she brought in a wheelbarrow that her husband fixed up (a working wheelbarrow is a must-have around here)! She also brings in bananas for the pigs (one of their favorites) and last year, Patty even knitted adorable leg warmers for Baine. We are so grateful for Patty and all she does for Heartland's animals and people.

Thank you BPNN!
This month we're saying thanks to the Badger Prairie Needs Network (BPNN), a nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger and addressing the root causes of generational poverty in the communities they serve. BPNN provides food assistance to low income households in the Verona Area School District which includes Verona and parts of Fitchburg and Madison. When their donated produce becomes unsuitable for consumption by people, they donate the fruits and veggies to Heartland. This maximizes the usage of the donated produce and also lets our animals enjoy nutritious, delicious meals!
