  • Donors share gifts generously
  • Clients receive personalized support and words of affirmation as they navigate challenges

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
Updates from the Refugee Integration Support Effort (RISE)
Since August 2021, JFS Case Managers and our team of over 200 volunteers have done an outstanding job of collaborating to ensure the refugees we welcome have the support and resources they need to successfully make Delaware their home.
Some refugees experienced their first snow this past month. Here, a volunteer helps a child build her first snowman!
View this 10-minute interview with Teleduction, including updates about our recent efforts and collaborations.
With over 70 individuals from countries including Sudan, Rwanda, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Turkey, the outpouring of support from volunteers, donors, partners, congregations, and local businesses has made a big difference for these families. They are well on their way to self-sufficiency.

We are pleased to share some recent accomplishments and updates:

  • Families are working on their English language skills with support and tutoring from community partners including Literacy Delaware, the University of Delaware’s English Language Institute, Christina Adult Education’s Literacy Program, and many others.
  • Individuals have been hired by employers including Amazon, an HVAC business, and food services.
  • Driving permits are being earned by many; one man passed his exam and now has a driver’s license...and bought a car!
  • Children are enrolled and succeeding in school; some are receiving additional support from the state’s Head Start program.
  • One family welcomed a new baby boy in January!
  • Refugees are overcoming the challenges and trauma associated with resettlement, developing emotional resilience, and building trust with JFS staff and volunteers.
  • Every refugee family has a Circle of Care (a group of 8-15 volunteers) dedicated to helping them navigate each aspect of their resettlement and build a network of connections in our community.

THANK YOU to everyone who continues to support our RISE program and make these moments of joy and success possible.
